Cama’i ellpeci (Hello all)! Happy New Year’s Eve! 🎇
I know i’ve been absent on here this past year and many know why, but for those that don’t, it’s because i’ve been very busy with my full-time job at a non-profit working on Sugt’stun (Sugpiaq/Alutiiq language) and cultural revitalization programming. Everything from language classes to dance to curriculum to Elder sessions, etc. I’ve traveled a lot the past year and had some incredible experiences. The first picture is from a weeklong Sugt’stun intensive we held in Naknek with my coworker and our friend and language mentor. I’ve had little creative energy leftover to create jewelry or art, and so I’ve put a lot of that down this last year. And that’s ok. I’ve also been managing health stuff and honestly that’s been the most difficult part of this past year. I’ve been forced to pull back, to lower my expectations on what i am able to accomplish in a given day or week, and most days i’m exhausted both physically and mentally. So, if i continue to post very infrequently it’s because my priorities have shifted, but i’m still hopeful that in 2026 I can make things, even if it’s mainly for dance or for language activities. As far as this year, the last two pics are a Sugpiaq/Alutiiq bracelet i made. I think that may be one of the few art projects i finished this year. 😅 So, cheers to creating in whatever format that may look like and here’s to hoping I can find better balance and health in 2026. 🫰🏽 To those still making art, I see you, I applaud you, and we need you in this crazy world. So thank you for continuing to share your art with the world. Happy New Year! May 2026 treat us kindly.
And to those who filled my cup this last year, especially my language cohort/community, quyanaasinaq. 🤍
