For 35 years, Ming Yang has always focused on sharing authentic handcrafted treasures from Nepal.

In today’s fast-paced market, Ming Yang is one of the very few old shops left that stays to its roots, focusing solely on authentic Tibetan Buddhist artifacts. Nearly ninety percent of our collection is carefully sourced and handcrafted by master artisans in Nepal.

While there are many makers and suppliers of wood tables in Nepal, for nearly 30 years, we have chosen to work with the same master craftsman. This long-term partnership ensures that every altar table maintains excellent carving quality, nice vintage color combinations, and solid structural wrokmanship.

These tables are built entirely from scratch through a meticulous, traditional process:

Smoke Curing & Air Drying: Dense, durable local wood is placed in a dry, roofed outdoor area for natural air drying, then moved into a specialized smoke room for seasoning. This ancient method naturally hardens the timber, preventing it from warping or cracking in different climates, while providing organic protection against pests and rot.

Pure Hand Carving: The master artisans sketch the designs directly onto the bare wood. Using only traditional hand chisels and wooden mallets, they skillfully sculpt and hollow out the wood surface to create stunning 3D relief layers.

Hand Painting: Once the carving is complete, the table is primed and entirely hand-painted with vivid mineral pigments. Finally, it is meticulously detailed with fine gold accents, making the sacred imagery beautifully pop.

Our tables feature carefully chosen designs of the Astamangala (the Eight Auspicious Symbols) and the protective Snow Lions to bring blessings and peace into your home.

Historically, these table woodcarving craft extends across temple shrines, sacred wood boxes, and ritual trays. These specific tables (known as Chogtse in Tibetan) are designed at just the right height for floor-seated practitioners. When sitting on a cushion, it is highly conducive for resting your daily practice texts, your bell and dorje, and your hand damaru. Alternatively, it serves beautifully as a small personal altar table to support a central statue and your offering cups.

When choosing our suppliers, we look at more than just quality and price, as these are only basic requirements. What matters more is integrity, responsibility, efficiency, and reliable after-sales service—these are the real foundations that allow a partnership to last.

The Tibetan Buddhist items we distribute are quite diverse, including statues, thangkas, ritual implements, offerings and various cloth decorations. We have long-term relationships with many of our supplier partners, and over time, we have built a stable foundation of trust and mutual understanding🙏

In Nepal, the making of prayer wheels (Tibetan: mani wheels) is a traditional craft that combines skilled handwork with deep spiritual meaning. Artisans begin by selecting materials such as metal, wood, or alloys, then carefully cut and shape them to form a perfectly balanced cylindrical body. An inner rotating mechanism is then installed, allowing the wheel to spin smoothly.

Once the outer structure is completed, rolls of paper printed with Buddhist scriptures or the Six-Syllable Mantra (Om Mani Padme Hum) are carefully placed inside. It is believed that each rotation of the wheel carries the same merit as reciting the prayers once. The wheel is then sealed and secured to protect the sacred texts.

The production also allows full customization, including different sizes, materials, and designs of prayer wheels. Even the inscriptions and decorative styles can be adjusted according to the needs of customers or monasteries, making each piece unique in purpose and meaning.

Prayer wheels are made in a wide range of sizes, from very small handheld versions to large installations. Small prayer wheels usually take about one month to complete, while larger ones—such as those measuring 2 to 3 feet—require more than two months due to the entirely handmade process and greater complexity.

Finally, each prayer wheel undergoes polishing, decoration, and quality inspection. Some are further enhanced with carvings, paintings, or metal ornaments, giving them a more sacred and refined appearance. This entire process is not only a form of craftsmanship but also a living expression of Tibetan Buddhist faith and practice.

I recently had the privilege of visiting a traditional woodcarving workshop tucked away in a small village. The craft here is a profound family legacy, passed down through generations, with the entire household involved.

The dedication to the raw materials alone is a long and meticulous process. High-quality wood must be continuously collected and seasoned for years to ensure it won't warp or crack once carved.

Large timber blocks are reserved for bigger pieces, such as a full carving of the 21 Taras. With daily, continuous carving, such a project takes 4 to 6 months to complete.

The choice of wood is highly deliberate and depends entirely on the purpose of the piece, utilizing varieties like sandalwood, camphor wood, uttis/simal, and agrath/sal wood.

The birth of a masterpiece is the refined result of the team's concerted efforts. One artisan is responsible for the proportions and the serene face of the initial carving (the most challenging part), another handles the intricate lotus base and back-halo, someone else takes charge of painting, and another applies the antique finish.

Apprentices spend years mastering simple relief carvings and geometric patterns. Only after their skills have been honed to maturity do they finally begin to carve the solemn and sacred visages of the deities.

Each of these sacred hand drums is made entirely by hand, using skills passed down through generations. It takes years of practice to master this craft, and the process is never easy. When you hold one, you’re looking at a lot of hard work and a long history of expertise.

Savor traditional Nepali Masala Chiya, slow-simmered over a charcoal fire to create a rich and robust aroma. This tea is typically served in handmade clay cups called matka, which infuse the drink with a unique, earthy fragrance. This ancient preparation method is not only a delight for the palate but also a timeless symbol of Nepal’s warm hospitality.

Aside from handmade and iron, this burner has several distinct features:

Artisanal Heritage: It is likely made using traditional lost-wax casting or hand-forging techniques in Nepal, where metalworking is a centuries-old craft.

Aromatic Diffusion: The design allows smoke to billow from the deity's mouth and nostrils, creating a dramatic visual effect that mimics the "wisdom flames" or "breath of life" described in ta***ic texts.

Durability: Unlike ceramic or brass, heavy iron burners are prized for their ruggedness and ability to withstand the high temperatures of charcoal tablets.

The Horse Head (Hayagriva) on top of the Garuda Face, the maker is creating a "Supreme Protector" vessel. Burning incense inside signifies the purification of the environment across all three levels—sky, earth, and underworld—simultaneously. It is a highly powerful piece of ritual art.

Use a cloth or metal tongs to lift the lid while incense is burning inside. Never touch the metal directly until it has completely cooled down.

This Tibetan ceremonial lama hat is a refined example of Vajrayana ritual craftsmanship, traditionally worn by high lamas during ta***ic ceremonies, empowerments, and formal pujas.

The structured form is covered in richly woven brocade with auspicious floral motifs, symbolizing purity and the flourishing of enlightened qualities.

At the crown sit the sun, moon, and norbu (wish-fulfilling jewel)—together representing the union of wisdom and compassion, with the norbu symbolizing the spontaneous fulfillment of enlightened qualities and aspirations.

This ceremonial hat is a masterpiece of Tibetan liturgical art, crafted with high-quality materials:

Silk Brocade: The body features heavy, multi-colored silk woven with intricate "jacquard" floral and lattice patterns.

Gold & Silver Thread: Metallic-wrapped threads (Zari) outline the panels to catch light during rituals.

Fire-Gilded Copper: The Sun, Moon, and Mani Jewel are copper plated in real gold and silver using traditional fire gilding for a durable, radiant finish.

Structural Core: Layers of starched cotton or felted wool provide the signature "Pandita" pointed shape.

Cotton Lining: A soft, breathable interior lining ensures comfort for the wearer.

More than ceremonial attire, such pieces carry lineage, meaning, and presence. Today, it stands not only as a ritual object, but also as a collectible work where textile, metalwork, and spiritual symbolism come together in harmony.
