My grandmother raised me. She was a sewing teacher who quit work to raise her children. She made a come back to work at age 60 with hand-made patchwork quilts each being an art piece. She continued quilting for 30 years, until she was diagnoised with Alzheimers. Then she couldn’t do them anymore. That left us with a full cupboard of textiles. I can not sew myself but can make jewellery…
So I repurpose her patchwork textiles to tell other stories- in jewellery this time. The collection is named after her: FİKRET.
This piece is a special one where I chose a textile from her cupboard to represent “Regret” and so the piece is named as that.
