DesignStage Singapore

DesignStage Singapore A premier design fair for Asia and Singapore, organized annually by MAD Museum of Art & Design.

In recent years, there has been a growing focus on art in Singapore as well as in Asia. This is also largely due to an increasing awareness and appreciation of Asian artists and their works through events and fairs like Art Stage. With an international demand for these artists, together with the increasing wealth of collectors in the region, collectors have also grown in numbers as well as mature

d in terms of taste and sophistication. Just as the art community has grown as a result of the exposure of international art on view in Singapore, the design scene can also benefit from a similar approach. Singapore and Hong Kong are key international art hubs, and it has become increasingly important to introduce events and programmes that allow for global names and talents to be brought into Asia for greater exposure. Currently, there is no such avenue or platform for the design world here in the region, with respects to Hong Kong, China or Singapore. As such, it would be crucial to kick start a design fair that can establish itself alongside its Western counterparts; a fair that can serve as a commercial and educational springboard for cutting edge design. As such, a design presence in Singapore is a strategic and pioneering move to establish the city as an important and influential destination for art and design. A design fair in Singapore will recognise the much-needed opportunity to bring together design upstarts, curators, gallerists and collectors to contribute as well as experience the visual culture of our time. This is why DesignStage was conceptualised specifically in mind to fill this need. DesignStage is an international platform for design and the application of art aesthetics in our everyday life. As there are currently no such forums or fairs of its kind in Asia, it will be the first space wholly dedicated to gathering the world's most influential and promising creatives, creators, collectors, gallerists as well as critics to experience the best of design, culture and commerce. DesignStage is intended to fill the need for our increasing appetite for beautiful things and decorative art. The show will curate the most exciting and ground breaking commercial work, design initiatives as well as collaborations with designers, innovators and institutions in areas of architecture, interior, antiques, vintage pieces and even jewellery. In this aspect and as a first mover, DesignStage hopes to establish itself as an important name that is synonymous with a strong advocate of high-end design in this region. Held concurrently with the premier art event Art Stage at the Marina Bay Sands, DesignStage will continue to enrich and complement the demand for a world-class contemporary design fair in a bid to nurture and educate collectors and enthusiasts on the latest and finest in the collectible design market.

Innovative Designweek Singapore Highlights include a multitude of products by master ceramics maker Bosa, whose collaborations with various award designers like Jamie Hayon, Sam Baron and Elena Salmistraro in polished gold, bronze and platinum result in quirky objects that are as much anthropological commentaries as they are decorative sculptures, illuminating lightworks by Duccio Conti Caponi which reconstitute the preconceived shapes and structures of traditional lamps with their innovative reinterpretations, the superb blend of found materials and sculptural re-imaginings by Dario Tironi, exquisite pieces of crystal works by Baldi, designer furniture and more by Andrea Felice, Servomuto, Carrara Design Factory & MOS, Pampaloni, Mario Cioni, Sadie Clayton, Una Burke, Jeffrey Ho Kiat and Jasmine Tan, not to be missed.

Illusion is inspired by Bensen’s past experience as a commercial diver. Diving 120 meters into the unknown has made him see things in a new light. Like an observer to a colossal sculpture, Bensen saw the subsea structures around him take on different shapes at different depths of diving. Magical sights that fused from the metal frames around him captivated Bensen in awe, and remained ingrained in his memory. Bensen translates his past adventures into his sculptures, aspiring to evoke the same wonder and fascination in viewers that he had personally encountered.

Having always been fascinated by both the economic and sexual aspect of porcelain, Jeff Koons has teamed up with high-end french porcelain company, Bernardaud, to create plate sculptures with miniature versions of his famous yellow steel Balloon Dog and is limited yo only 2,300 pieces.

'According to the Bernardaud release, the new Balloon Dog (Yellow) "simulates the mirror-polished stainless steel of the monumental sculpture with its metallic yellow finish," which is then affixed to a shiny porcelain plate. "This highly complex project required the skill and expertise of modelers, decorators, and glazers within the workshop of the company, and new technologies were created in order to meet the artist's requirements."'

Visit MAD Museum to see the new Bernardaud/Koons Balloon Dog (Yellow) plate.
