In Muslim weddings, the mahar or mas kahwin ("marriage gold") is a mandatory gift, either in cash or in kind, given by the groom to his bride. It symbolises the beginning of a husband's commitment towards his wife in fulfilling her everyday needs.
The mas kahwin belongs fully to the bride, so to my cat-loving client, her choice of the design of her gift (a gold ring) was, unsurprisingly, a pair of cat's ears. To a similarly cat-obsessed me, this was such fun to make, so thank you A and H, and congratulations on your beautiful nuptials!
Handcrafted, as always, in 18k rose gold (with 100% recycled precious metals) and trillion-cut amethysts.
