One museum outing with migrant workers. That's where it all began for Hariharan and Gowtham.
Today, these two Woh Hup colleagues have taken their volunteering journey further β training as caseworkers with Ray of Hope (ROH), visiting dormitories, listening to migrant brothers' concerns, and connecting them to the help they need. When a case is urgent, they make sure it reaches ROH for fast action.
Anjappan Gowthaman, from Contracts, stepped up because "many migrant brothers need significant support and assistance." Senior M&E Supervisor Karuppiah Hariharan wanted to "make my free time meaningful."
Through their training, they've learnt the power of kind communication; how to understand a person's situation, analyse their problems, and find the right solution. And for Gowtham, the journey has sparked something bigger: "My desire to inspire others to engage in social work is growing."
Their advice to fellow colleagues? Hariharan puts it best: "Every opportunity must be used... we are all never born again, so don't miss it." Gowtham's reason in one line: "I volunteer because I love myself and society."
Hariharan and Gowtham, thank you for going beyond our organised activities and giving your time so generously to others. You're an inspiration to us all!
