If the gold medals awarded at this summer's Olympic Games in Tokyo were made of pure gold, each would carry a precious metal value of $35,556. Unfortunately for the 339 athletes who will earn the ultimate symbol of athletic achievement at these Games, the gold medals are actually made of 500 grams of silver overlaid with 6 grams of gold. The melt value is just $832 — far from the $1.46 million paid in 2013 for Jesse Owens' 1936 Olympic gold medal.

Gold Sovereigns attract demand not only from bullion investors, but also from coin collectors looking for a rare or particularly interesting coin to add to their collection. These coins can often come at inflated premiums due to this additional demand, in fact, an extremely rare sovereign became the most expensive British coin of all time in 2014 when a numismatic fanatic paid more than £500,000 for a 1937 Edward VIII Proof Sovereign.

Happy Saturday! What a cute couple, right? 🥰❤️ Yeah, I’ve got fairly big hands... 😅 These two 20 oz Johnson Matthey Vintage Silver bars .999+ Fine (Diamond JM Logo) are lovely.

Do you notice that something went wrong? There’s a mint-made made error: the one on the right was mis-struck on the flat surface... 😉 These carry a higher premium due to the fact they are no longer produced.

🔥 A cast finished 3rd series in 5-digit serial variation Engelhard silver ingot, occasionally seen with smooth, reflective finish as observed on the ingot pictured. Many studied examples across serial number range demonstrate small variations of font die and casting shape. We believe the wider spacing on weight and purity stampings began around 75. Despite the seemingly wide serial number range, we believe these 5-digit ingots were only produced randomly in small runs and are, in fact, quite rare.

What are your thoughts on ingots becoming numismatic? It’s hard to deny a natural toned ingot with flawless featured demanding a premium. Comment below 👇🏼

Very often we buy old gold bars with certificates from extinct refiners. 💛 This one has just completed 45 years. 🔥 It was issued for a 1 kilo + bar of 995/1000 that we ended up refining to 999,9 ♻️ ...but we always keep these documents religiously! 😀 Wouldn’t you? Don’t you agree that they are a piece of history?
