KAIROS by Quratulain Qamar Choudry
‘Kairos’ was inspired by my creations, my own clock-installations and sculptures. As a sculptor, I’ve been working with clocks and mechanisms since 2013 and my work so far has revolved around my struggle to manage time. Personally, I feel there has always been shortage of time for me. I feel an urge to stop time, to pause a moment, to slow things down, even if j
ust for a second or a single heartbeat, just to experience something as a whole or to better understand that specific situation in my surroundings but at my own pace. I believe that my work is an endeavor to break, reshape and reconstruct the essence of time. I seek to test myself and break free of the bounded restraints and pressure of time. I achieve this by physically implying my ideas to an actual clock or watch, breaking it, reshaping it and reconstructing it completely in my way. At times my creation refuses to look like a clock or a watch but instead takes the form of an unfamiliar object to the viewer. This time it took form of wearable art.
‘Kairos’ means the propitious or correct moment, a time when conditions are right and events are meant to happen for a reason. Kairos expresses the right sentiment, talking about the right moment and time. I try to experience that with each passing moment without feeling the pressure of time, ‘time’ that clock defines for us. I feel life is not the moments that we spent or wasted, life is the awful responsibility of managing the moments that are worth it. Because in the end, the truth is that time does not pass, it continues. About the Artist:
