Turning waste into worth — and skills into opportunity 💙

Seaglass Sonata conducted the training workshop “Transforming Waste into Worth: Upcycling and Craft-Making Skills” for out-of-school youth (OSY) and women in Brgy. Francia, Virac on February 23, 2026.

What many consider as discarded materials, we see possibilities for reuse. During the workshop, participants learned practical, home-based upcycling techniques using seaglass and plastic bottles — demonstrating that environmental stewardship and sustainable livelihood can go hand in hand.

Each trainee received an upcycling toolkit. This allows them to continue to practice and refine their craft at home and, hopefully, transform newly learned skills into income opportunities.

Selected participants may also become part of Seaglass Sonata’s production support network, for increased collaboration, creativity, and shared growth within the community.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Francia Barangay Council, led by Barangay Captain Manolo Isidoro, for their full support as the pioneer partner of this initiative.

This activity is supported by the Adjustment Measures Program (AMP) of the Department of Labor and Employment — a program designed to help enterprises enhance productivity, sustain operations, and grow responsibly while safeguarding workers. Thank you, DOLE.

Vaseline, or “UV glass”, gets its yellow-green color from about 2% uranium dioxide—safe in the tiny amounts used. For decades it was simply known as "uranium glass", until antique dealers softened the term in the mid-1900s to ease public concern. Popular from 1880–1930 and produced by glassmakers like Boston and Sandwich, Fenton, and McKee, its production paused during WWII when uranium became unavailable.
