Sometimes, betrayal happens not just by the people around us, but by our own selves—our own thoughts and feelings. We imagine problems and live in it, even if it is has not happened yet or worse, unreal. Emotions will always be a part of who we are as humans, and God desires the wholeness of us for His glory. However, the heart is deceitful above all things (Jer. 17:9). If what we feel becomes our reality, it could engulf us to the point of making itself our master.
But His word tells us this:
If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and He knows everything (1 John 3:20).
To us believers, we can rest in the truth that through Christ, we are more than conquerors even of our own emotions. He is greater than our hearts and with the Advocate, the Holy Spirit in us, we can overcome the battles in our minds and in our hearts. Therefore, with our eyes fixed on Him, hope will never leave our hearts no matter how dark it gets. For this hope is not anchored on the things that are seen, but to God who has prepared an everlasting life for those who love Him.
“But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. The LORD is my portion, says my soul, therefore I will hope in him.”
Lamentations 3:21-24
