What special care should I give my watch?

Shocks:

Avoid strong shocks such as dropping on hard surfaces as a watch is a sensitive precision instrument.

Water resistance:

Do not put a water resistant watch in water while the crown is pulled out.
Do not turn or pull out the crown when the watch is wet.
Even if a watch is water resistant, avoid placing it directly under running water from a faucet. The water pressure from a faucet is sufficient to result in moisture pe*******on inside the watch.
The water resistance of a watch is not permanently guaranteed. It is affected by the ageing of gaskets or deformation of watch parts due to an accidental shock. We recommend that you have the water resistance of the watch checked regularly to ensure it’s functionality.
To preserve it’s water resistance as long as possible, wipe off moisture, sweat or dirt with a soft, dry cloth after removing it from the wrist.

Swimming in the sea:

After using a water resistant watch in sea water, wash it in fresh water and dry it with a soft cloth.
Do not wash a water resistant watch while the crown is pulled out.
Avoid washing it directly under running water. Wash it in still water in a sink or container.

Bath or sauna:

Do not wear the watch while taking a bath or a sauna. Steam, soap or some components of a hot spring may accelerate the deterioration of water resistance performance.

Temperature Extremes:

The function of the watch is affected by extreme temperature and by extreme changes in temperature.
Since operational temperature ranges differ for each caliber, please refer to the instruction for your watch caliber.

Chemicals:

Do not use solvents or chemicals (i.e. benzine, thinner, bleach) for cleaning a watch. This may cause a chemical reaction and result in deterioration of the watch or a change in the color of the case, band or strap.

Crown:

Turn the crown from time to time in order to prevent corrosion of the crown and maintain the flexibility of the gasket.
For a screw-in crown, screw down the crown carefully to prevent pe*******on of moisture inside the movement.

Cleaning:

Wipe off moisture, sweat or dirt with a soft cloth after removing it from the wrist to increase the durability of the case back, gaskets and band.

AUTOMATIC WATCH CARE AND MAINTENANCE
Owning a great watch is an achievement. Yet, you should take good care of it by learning the proper care and procedures when cleaning it to maintain its robust condition.

Automatic watch care is important for several reasons and is primarily concerned with the common and hassle-free ways to take good care of an automatic timepiece. As a watch enthusiast, there is a need to pay attention to an automatic watch maintenance cost – what exactly are you paying for and just how much should you be paying?

The answers are here. Have a quick read of this guide about some automatic watch maintenance tips for a better, long-lasting automatic timepiece.

GENERAL CARE (DO’S AND DON’TS)
This is the basic part. You need to have a common knowledge of the do’s and don’ts when cleaning and maintaining the proper working conditions of any automatic watches for ladies or the automatic watches for men.

Wipe it every night
This is a simple way to get rid of the dust and other dirt on the watch’s dial, bracelet or strap. Yet, doing this varies if it the watch is water resistant or not.

If it is a non-water-resistant watch, it is recommended to wipe it with a soft piece of cloth and be mindful not to press the watch’s face too hard to prevent accidental breaks.

On the other hand, if it is a waterproof timepiece, clean it by preparing a mixture of water and any mild soap, plus a soft piece of cloth or a cleaning brush with soft bristles. Gently clean the watch by brushing its bracelet and other parts. However, make sure that you checked its crown to be in its proper position. Otherwise, the water may seep inside and cause permanent damage to the watch.

Lastly, dry your watch and keep it in a safe place.

Remove your watch before taking a shower
As practiced by many watch enthusiasts, it is recommended not to wear your watch when taking a shower. Even though you have a water-resistant watch, some wristwatches neither have the capacity to resist air nor to withstand the temperature of hot water.

Heat causes the gaskets to expand at times, thus it loosens the seals that prevents the water from entering the watch’s interiors. Most of the time, the damages are not obvious until you start to notice fog formations on its dial and/or other malfunctions on its operations.

That is why ideally, it is better not to wear one unless you want to frequently have it serviced by a watch professional to make sure it is in good shape.

Keep it in a box (only when needed)
Your watch’s box is not only for packaging purposes. It is basically a treasure box where you can keep your timepiece when it is not in use. So, instead of having it sit at the bottom of your cabinet, use it for the purpose it is intended for.

Wear it
Your watch is a daily accessory. It is designed to be worn not kept in a safe. Your automatic wristwatch won’t work well if you are not using it since it relies on the energy it can accumulate as you move through day. Thus, wearing it daily keeps it wound naturally.

If you think about these general tips, everything is doable. You really do not have to spend so much by following the given tips. More likely, you just need to follow them accordingly. However, if you still have doubts, you can always read your watch’s manual for instructions.

10 TIPS FOR MAINTAINING A LUXURY WATCH
A mechanical watch is more than just something that tells the time. Not only is it a pure symbol of classical engineering, with a rich and interesting history, but there are also personal stories associated with these watches, many times making sentimental values outweigh financial ones. If properly cared for, a good mechanical timepiece can be passed along from generation to generation. It’s not difficult to properly care for a watch, especially if you are passionate about it, or have a close, personal connection to it.

1. Clean your watch as often as possible
Take a soft cloth and wipe down the band and the case to remove any dirt or dust. Soak the watch in soap and water (follow these steps) every couple of months to loosen the dirt. Follow our watch troubleshooting guide to learn more.

2. Service Regularly
Service your watch every two or three years, regardless of warranty length. You want to be sure and catch issues before they are a problem. Call us today at 09208701821 – we would be happy to see you immediately. Or, contact us online.

3. Avoid magnets
Some of you may not be aware that placing your watch close to a magnet can negatively affect the timekeeping of your watch.

4. Know your watch’s water resistance
Some watch wearers are not aware of their watch’s limits and take their watch too deep. If your watch is water resistant up to 50 meters, it’s not wise to take your watch snorkeling. If your watch cannot handle the depths, the rapid change in pressure may prove to be too much for your watch to handle. If your watch is not water resistant, it can still handle small splashes of water, but it’s best to avoid it. If your watch has a leather band, you will want to avoid getting your watch wet because water can weaken the leather watchstrap. Learn more about watch water resistance.

5. Take care of the crystal
This is quite obvious, but it’s still important and worth mentioning. Take every precaution you can to prevent from banging the crystal of your watch against a wall or any other objects that may cause scratches.

6. Keep your watch box for storage
When not wearing your watch, it’s best to keep it in the box it came in. By setting the watch on its side or on the crystal, there is always the possibility the watch could get scratched. The watch box is made to keep the watch safe and offers protection for the watch.

7. Avoid extended exposure to sunlight
Sunlight can fade the color on your watch. Also, heat can shorten the battery life, so it’s best to prevent your watch from being placed in direct sunlight.

8. Avoid contact with chemicals
Cleaning supplies, oils, cologne and perfume, all bad news. Perfume especially can damage leather bands, weakening them and potentially causing it to tear. When spraying perfume or cologne, let it completely dry before placing the watch on your wrist. Your watch, like your expensive diamond jewelry – should be the last thing you put on when you get ready (before your jacket). When cleaning your watch, do not use powerful cleaners. Simpler is better. Consult our jewelry cleaning guide for help.

9. Never open your watch by yourself
Leave this up to a watchmaker. Opening your watch can expose it to dust, dirt, and other particles that can get inside the movement, so it’s best to leave this up to a professional.

10. Read your watch manual
These steps will most likely apply to the care of every luxury watch. However, there are certain things that are specific to each watch and these tips will most likely be listed in the watch manual.

A luxury mechanical watch should be properly respected and cared for, rich in memories and in financial cost. A piece like that deserves our love and care – and these 10 tips will help your watch survive until you can pass it down.
