This one is a special JDM Seiko! Before I get into the technicals, give it time and admire the aesthetic of this model. Please yourself with the pearlescent white dial, blued hands, dressy stainless steel case, and the majestic Open Heart as the cherry on top. If you are a Seiko Fan, Enthusiast, or a Collector, you would already know that the 4R35 and 4R36 are well loved automatics that is reliable and have an impressive accuracy that is offered as Seiko’s standard. Now, this SARY houses a 4R38. The 4R38 is an open heart version of the 4R35/6 and it is not as simple as making a hole on the movement to view the balance. Redesigning, rearrangement, repositioning, and reinforcing are needed in order to make this work. The 4R38 is also a rare sight. To date, they are only seen on 4 models; SSA (US exclusive), SSVM (A JDM for women), SCVE (newly released Japan only unit), and the SARY. The SARY is also a series that is one of the first models of Seiko to house and welcome the 4R family.

Seiko Lord Matic (23 Jewels)

Since Seiko’s Quartz Revolution (or Quartz Crisis) was a turbulent time period for mechanical watches, Seiko’s automatic watches were not excluded from the pressure of this era. While the Grand Seiko and King Seiko were in their inter-rivalry for the top spot and Seiko 5 being a standard automatic line, the LordMatic series filled up the position of the middle where it is for the people who appreciated and sought after the craftsmanship of mechanical watches and competing against the highly accurate quartz while remaining more affordable than the top tier. The LordMatic was equipped with high performance automatic movements, being more luxurious than the Seiko 5, and benefited from Seiko’s dedication to quality finishing and attention to detail. In a way, it is a baby King Seiko or Grand Seiko.
