It’s never too cold to have an icy treat! Instead of coming from the freezer, these cool watermelon tourmalines go through a fascinating natural process beneath the earth’s surface. The sudden contrast of colour in the stone is due to the change of environment and chemical composition as it forms on the earth’s crust. The pinkish-red hues are owed to the presence of manganese and later, the green layers mark a different environment where iron and other chemicals dominate.

This exquisite brooch is made of polki unheated rubies that exhibit the prized ‘Pigeon’s Blood’ color. The labella is set with diamonds and gradient sapphires. Arranging the uneven rubies into petals shows how chaos can turn into the highly evolved form of an orchid. The petals articulate to mimic the delicacy of the red cymbidium, it feels alive.
