Soul Eater (ソウルイーター) is a dark fantasy shounen manga series with over 113 chapters, that originally ran from 2004 - 2013. The manga had an anime adaptation back in 2008, but diverged its storyline as the manga was not yet finished during the anime’s run. The series is about our main cast of characters composed of Weapon Meisters, those with the ability to wield Demon Weapons, which are humans that can transform into weapons. Their goal is to turn the Demon Weapons into a Death Scythe to be used by Shinigami, Death himself. To accomplish this they need to collect 99 evil human souls and one witch’s soul, specifically in that order. Each chapter explores the misadventures of our cast trying to accomplish that goal, all the while facing increasingly dangerous and sinister enemies that threaten to destroy the world 😱

Soul Eater possesses a gothic visual motif, appearing like a Halloween-esque style 🎃 blended into the anime aesthetic. Many even point out that Soul Eater’s style reminds them of western animation classics like “A Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Corpse Bride.” This style enhances the characters’ quirky personalities as they traverse through this macabre world. Soul Eater also prides itself on telling a story with fast-paced action, focusing more on what is happening at the story’s present, rather than drawing a lot from the past. All in all, Soul Eater offers a unique experience that fans of Dark Fantasy and Shounen should definitely check out 🔥

Soul Eater actually serves as a prequel for Atsushi Ohkubo’s other popular shonen series, Fire Force 🤯 Furthermore, when the anime adaptation for Fire Force ended this month, the last frame of the anime featured the text “NEXT IS SOUL WORLD,” which many fans took as a sign of a possible remake of the anime. This is further supported when the official 20th anniversary X account of Soul Eater came back to life last April 23, after more than a year of silence and dropped an image of the iconic Moon of Soul Eater with the caption “NEXT IS…” 🤔
So, do you think a potential remake of the series is possible? Tell us what you think in the comments below ✍️ and continue to share your love for the Soul Eater series 🤍 Stay tuned for our next SOMAfeature in the following month!
