Family is supposed to be the people who stand by you no matter what, but that’s not always how it works. Some relatives only show up when they need something or when it benefits them. They smile to your face but talk behind your back, making it clear that the connection is just for show. It’s disappointing when you realize blood doesn’t automatically mean loyalty, but it teaches you to value the ones who truly care.
People like to say family is forever, but that only applies when the effort goes both ways. If you’re the only one reaching out, checking in, or trying to keep things together, then it’s not really a family bond—it’s just an obligation you’ve been holding onto. The truth is, real family isn’t always about who you’re related to. It’s about who shows up, who supports you, and who proves through their actions that they actually care.
