925 is the international standard for sterling silver. It contains 92.5% only because 99.9% pure silver

3. Why does Sterling Silver oxidise? Reaction with the chemicals in the environment and air causes silver to naturally oxidise. This is not a product defect. However, it is very easy to keep your silver jewellery clean and bright if you know how and use the correct care products.
4. Caring for your Silver jewellery. Polish it frequently with a soft dry cloth to avoid tarnish. Ideally use the special impregnated silver polishing cloth. Tarnish on silver will start with a mild color change to yellowish spots or patches and this is easily cleaned by washing it with detergent that doesn't contain any phosphate base chemicals. Soak and brush inside the back of the setting and rinse. Avoid contact with chemicals, perfume, hairspray and deos.
