I think I’m always drawn to hobbies that can eventually become something practical.

Back in 2019, after travelling and buying lots of local handmade jewellery, I decided I wanted to learn how to make earrings. That’s how my little fabrika.at.home brand started. I had so much fun making things and doing markets back then.

But after the Covid lockdowns, I realised something quite simple: I personally can happily wear the same minimalistic hoop earrings every single day. Making more and more jewellery started to feel a bit wasteful to me. Beautiful, yes. Fun to make, yes. But not very practical for my own life.

So I started looking for hobbies that felt more useful, and that’s how I found pottery. I still love it deeply. There is something very satisfying about making an object that I can actually use every day.

And now with needle felting, I’m doing the same thing again: trying to figure out what practical things I can make with it.

Every year I write down goals for myself. And if a new goal appears during the year, I add it to the list.

At the beginning of 2026, one of my goals was:
“No new hobbies. Focus on the hobbies I already have.”

From time to time, I go back to the list to check how I’m doing, reassess things, and decide whether all of those goals are still relevant.

So recently I opened it again. And right underneath “don’t start a new hobby” I had written:
“Try needle felting.” It made me laugh.
I think this might be the most accurate representation of how busy my brain is. Apparently one part of me is trying to create structure and limits, while another part is already looking for the next interesting thing.

1 hour of needle felting squeezed into 40 seconds

My phone battery actually died while I was filming and I didn’t even notice because I was way too deep into it.

And yes, at some point a plaster mysteriously appears on my finger. Of course I stabbed myself. Turns out needle felting + watching reality TV at the same time comes with occupational hazards 🩹😂

NEW HOBBY UNLOCKED 🔓

New passion? Yes.
New addiction? Also yes.
Cleanest hobby I’ve discovered so far? Surprisingly, yes.

No paint or glaze drops on the carpet, no clay dust, no beads sticking to feet 😂

And compared with drawing or colouring, this is so much more stimulating. Apparently my brain doesn’t want to peacefully colour something — it wants to stab wool thousands of times until a tiny heart appears ❤️
