Completed this commission for a client a few weeks back. She supplied the teeny tiny minuscule and very cute kina test (urchin shell), and asked for this framing of it. One of the more precise things I’ve ever done!

“Formation” now hanging, for its last few days, at Schmuck Rangiora. Materials: Argillite, jasper, nylon cord Length: 420mm, end of cord to bottom of foundation rock.
These three black argillites and their accompanying toggles of jasper stand together so perfectly. I’ve plaited one scarlet cord and five black cords together to bind them. There are loops braided into the cord so the pendant can be worn at different lengths.
I leaned into carving in the design and making of this piece. The overall shapes of the stones are as I found them, but I fussed over every hole and groove that the braid curves in and out of. It feels lovely, and can be worn whichever way around.
At until 23 April.

Two more necklaces from :
“Pet Rocks” Materials: Argillite with trace fossils, nylon cord Total length 1060mm. This necklace, when draped around the neck, has the two largest stones level to comfortably hold with your hands. It feels like you could take it off quickly and throw it, if that’s what your situation called for. Every one of these rocks is a beautiful blue/grey/green, braided through with the trails of ancient organisms feeding in the mud.
🪱🪨
“Seam”: Materials: Granite, quartzite, quartz, argillite Length: 560mm. These five stones are threaded together in a straight line, and the wearer can adjust the length and style it’s worn by sliding the stones along the two plaited cords.
Schmuck Rangiora is up at for one more week!! My work is attached to the wall, but visitors are welcome to touch and handle the 10 necklaces I have on display there.

Two more new pieces from Schmuck Rangiora: “Stratafied”, which is structurally similar as another necklace made for Braided Strata that I designed to wrap around the neck twice.
Materials: Quartzite, argillite, nylon cord. Total length 990mm.
⛰️
“Fodinichnia” is a pendant made from an argillite that has obvious yellowish fodinichnia trace fossils, formed by ancient deposit feeders as they excavated the sediment. The cord is long enough that it can be worn handbag-style, slung across one or both shoulders, or fastened shorter and hung as a pendant. Materials: Argillite with trace fossils, nylon cord. Total length 830mm.

“Substratum” made from Jasper, argillite, quartz and bound together with nylon cord, from the exhibition currently hanging in Chamber Gallery, Schmuck Rangiora, up until 23rd April.

See all my work from this exhibition here: https://annaclaire.nz/schmuck-rangiora

The first two images are the back view, third is the front view of this hefty pendant. The cord is braided from six strands of black waxed nylon, with the six strands separating into three at intervals to make loops that the courts toggles can pop through. This means the pendant can be worn at various lengths and in different configurations.
The black argillite has been drilled through from top to bottom twice, and the red jasper is drilled and carved so that the cord sits in its own gentle little groove, flush with the surface of the jasper.
Available to purchase, contact Chamber Gallery Rangiora.

On the Saturday of our weekend in Rangiora, Louise Johns had organised a workshop for us with the Rangiora Library to learn 3D modelling with , I modelled a bracelet, then they printed it for me!
This was way cool. The kind of thing, as an artist I should learn, but the chances of me actually sitting myself down and learning it a very slim! So very grateful to be sat down and taught it. Thanks again and

A sweet set of pendants and one bracelet made for a family, featuring fur from their beloved and recently deceased pet dog. They told me the story of how much this pet had meant to them and how she had also been a wonderful companion to their Dad while he was unwell, before he had passed away.
A made this set with design input from the family. Made from sterling silver, resin, stone, and featuring gold leaf and carefully placed fur.
It's an honour, as an artist, to be trusted to help commemorate the cycles of life and death.
The video is of the first piece I made, as a one off, for one of the family, and they loved it so decided to get more made for the rest of the family.
