Your wedding ring shouldn’t be an afterthought.

The height and shape of an engagement ring setting can affect how another band sits beside it.

A higher setting may leave enough room for a straight wedding band to sit flush. A lower setting might suit a curved or contoured band designed around the centre stone.

There isn’t one correct option. The important part is thinking about the finished stack while the engagement ring is still being designed.

Sometimes the best way to design one ring is to consider two.

Claws do an important job - but they don’t all have to look the same.

Round claws offer a soft, classic finish.

Eagle claws taper to a finer point for a sharper, more sculpted look.

Square claws add a stronger, more geometric detail.

V-claws wrap around pointed tips and corners, making them particularly useful for shapes such as pear, marquise and princess cuts.

A few millimetres of metal can completely change how the diamond is framed.

How much can one tiny detail change a ring? Quite a lot.

Single claws create a clean, minimal finish with less metal visible around the stone.

Double claws place two finer claws together, adding a more detailed and architectural look.

Triple claws make a stronger visual feature of each corner and can bring a more decorative or vintage feeling to the design.

The number of claws isn’t the only consideration. The stone’s shape, size and the construction of the entire setting all matter too.

Some of the hardest-working details are the ones you barely notice.

A support bar, also known as a gallery rail, sits beneath the centre stone and connects the claws around the setting.

Its purpose is structural, helping the setting remain stable and the claws stay correctly positioned. It can be kept plain and almost invisible, or set with diamonds to create another detail from the side.

Where do you want the eye to go first?

A plain band places all the attention on the centre stone. Clean, balanced and beautifully understated.

An accent band carries smaller diamonds along the shoulders, extending the sparkle across the finger.

Neither choice is simply “more” or “less.” It’s about deciding whether the band should quietly support the centre stone or become part of the feature.

Set with four claws, it feels clean and minimal.

Add a hidden halo and the detail appears from the side.

Surround it with a bezel and the design becomes smooth and contemporary.

Turn the stone east-to-west and you have something less traditional altogether.

The diamond shape may be the starting point, but the setting is what gives the ring its personality.

Can two metals work just as beautifully as one?

A two-tone engagement ring isn’t automatically less durable than a single-metal design.

Its strength comes down to the metals chosen, how the ring is constructed and the quality of the workmanship.

Pairing a yellow gold band with white gold or platinum claws can create contrast around the centre stone, while also making it easier to wear the ring alongside jewellery in different metals.

💍 Clean with warm water, a drop of mild dish soap, and a soft toothbrush
💍 Dry with a soft cloth, not paper towel, which can scratch the surface
💍 Store pieces separately so they don't knock against each other
