Blue Pearl Gallery

Blue Pearl Gallery Handmade Blue Pearl jewellery on Akaroa Wharf. www.nzbluepearls.co.nz My name is Jack Pawlowski. I am a European-trained Master Jeweller with 43 years experience.

I am the founder of The Blue Pearl Gallery in Akaroa. During my varied career, I have worked as a teacher at a jewellery high school in Poland and as a designer for the largest jewellery company in Europe—Pierre Lang—in Vienna, Austria. I have lived in New Zealand since 1986 and pursued my jewellery passion by opening my first boutique store and workshop not long after arriving in this beautiful c

ountry with my wife and two daughters. In 2000, I met Roger Beattie, the force behind Eyris® Blue Pearls. We work closely with the team at Eyris who source and provide us with some of the world’s best Blue Pearls. We set these in our own custom-designed pieces and our extensive range is exhibited in our Blue Pearl Gallery on the Main Wharf in Akaroa. Some of the highlights of my career include:

*Our team was called upon to create a unique Eyris® Blue Pearl brooch for Queen Elizabeth. The New Zealand Prime Minister, John Key, presented it to her in September, 2013. To our honour, the Queen has since worn it.

*The creation of Kiwi songstress Hayley Westenra’s dazzling one-carat white and argyle diamond platinum engagement ring in 2012.

*A commission for a small amber-and-white gold ice pick gifted to Sir Edmund Hillary in 2004 on his trip to Europe.

*The creation of an Eyris® Blue Pearl earring and pendant set for Miss World 2003 who modelled it for “Variety—The Children’s Charity” auction.

One, two or three Blue Pearls...

This design is a standout... no matter how many you choose to wear.

My Sister Magda, likes to wear the three-blue-pearl design, so much so that she even wore it skiing! ⛷️

That last reel inspired conversations about the slopes, NZ's ski season AND the endless possibilities within this lovely design...

Especially when you're seemingly flying high! ⛷️ Porters Alpine Resort

Pictured we have my sister, Magda, who many of you still ask for, after all these years ❤️

Apart from being a 'Blue Pearl Legend', Magda is also the best skiier in our family - closely followed by Dad in the clip - who taught her nearly everything she knows!!

Pearls, pearls and more pearls... 💙

Please know that we are working on your online orders as fast as we can!!

Each seagrown Blue Pearl is unique so quite often we have to send your request directly to the Eyris Blue Pearl farm.

The pearls are grown in Akaroa Harbour and each harvest is different offering an array of beautiful colors - from the blues and greens, to purple and even pink!

Ultimately Mother Nature decides what we are given.

So ordering a Blue Pearl is not like ordering anything else online - as the pearls are too rare to have stockrooms filled with them - although that is our ultimate pearl-nerd dream! 🤓 🤣

Well hello there, Akaroa ❤️

The iconic big blue building on Akaroa's Main Wharf has been our home for the last 15 years 💙

It has been a place of countless memories - birthdays, Blue Pearl creations, happy family antics, dolphin and whale spotting, French Festivals, sunsets, and meeting many wonderful people.

This building has sheltered us through storms, seen us through Covid and welcomed us after the Christchurch Earthquake - it has truly been our 'home-away-from-home'.

Now with the Christchurch City Council Main Wharf rebuild starting on June 21st it is time for us to say goodbye while the rebuild takes place.

We will be relocating nearby in Akaroa and look forward to re-opening in September once we have taken a breather and completed our new space.

We want to take this time to thank each and everyone of you for being part of our journey. Our small family business would not be possible without you and we are humbly grateful to all the good people that have walked through our doors.

Soon our 'new home' will be ready and we look forward to welcoming you once more ❤️

Quite possibly our most photographed pic! 📸

And so the story goes... it was a warm, sunny day when Sir Ian McKellen walked in wearing a coat and wool beanie.

Mum mistook him for a homeless man and went to the back kitchen to make him a sandwich (as at the time we used to feed the homeless who wandered in).

When she came out with this sandwich, my sister Magda was taking this photo, and that's when Mum realized he wasn't in fact homeless!!

To this day, we still aren't sure if Sir Ian knew about the sandwich or not?! 🤭

The funny thing is... Dad looks just as artsy and rugged!

An ode to a local, Akaroa legend...

Silke - our postie, our friend and adored by Lucy our English Springer Spaniel, will be dearly missed ♥️

We wish you every good in your next adventure and please know that our home is always open for coffee, chats and Lucy pats!
