30 today. 🤍 Jurriaan Strootman

I put this post together very last minute, going through thousands of photos and trying to choose just 20. There are so many people and memories that didn’t make it into these 20 photos, but you know who you are, and you know how important you are to me. ❤️

And somehow, that felt quite fitting. Because looking back, the moments that mean the most are never really about the perfect picture or all the things around it. They’re the simple, real ones. Growing up with my twin brother, time with my family, friends who became family, our dogs, travels, random days, building a life around my passion and getting to call that my work, and now sharing and celebrating life with my love.

Going through all these memories made me realise again how blessed I am. Not because everything has to be big or perfect, but because of all the people, places and little moments that have made these first 30 years what they are.

If they’ve taught me anything, it’s that life is really about collecting memories with the people you love. Celebrating the big moments, but maybe even more importantly, enjoying all the little ones in between.

So here are 20 little pieces of mine.

“Origins” for De Beers London

Working on the Hong Kong store edition of this Kimberlite wall.

Inspired by the flowing landscapes of Botswana’s Okavango Delta and the endless horizons of the Namibian Desert, this sculptural work traces the geological journey of one of Earth’s most extraordinary materials: diamonds.

Crafted from thinly sliced kimberlite, the volcanic rock that transports diamonds from deep within the Earth to the surface, the flowing forms echo ancient waterways, shifting desert dunes, and the landscapes where these remarkable stones are found.

Within the piece, crystal structures and mineral formations are revealed, uncovering the raw beauty and hidden stories held within the stone.

Illuminated from behind, the work transforms into an almost otherworldly object, inviting a closer look at the origins of diamonds and the geological forces that shaped them over time.

A dialogue between geology, light, and time.
