Attention to all reenactors and Roman dress enthusiasts: the new book on the toga is now officially out!
"The Toga and Roman Identity" was launched yesterday evenening by the author Ursula Rothe() and accompanied by a fabulous demonstration of the various toga drapes.
If you've always wanted to know all the ins and outs of the toga, here's your chance!

at Teylers museum in Haarlem. It's a wonderfully original 18th century museum. Their collection consists of Dutch and Italian paintings and drawings, fossils (pic on the right shows a mosquito in a piece of amber, but they also have dinosaur bones) encyclopedias, (gem)stones (including many of the gemstoned that were already in use in antiquity, such as Lapis Lazuli) and all kinds of early scientific instruments.

I heartily recommend this museum to tourists (with or without children).

Prachtige sieraden in de tentoonstelling "geheimen uit Gelderse bodem" in het CODA.

Linksboven: 2 romeinse armbanden in git gevonden in Nijmegen. Git kwam uit Engeland, en wordt nog steeds uit de kliffen van Whitby gehaald.

Linksonder en rechtsboven: 2 bronzen nekringen (torques) uit de ijzertijd gevonden bij Uddel

Rechtsonder: de scherven van glazen armbanden uit de late ijzertijd gevonden in Beuningen.

Beautiful local finds of prehistoric and roman jewellery in the exhibition in Apeldoorn, The Netherlands.

Ab. left: jet bracelets from the Roman city of Nijmegen. Jet was mined in Whitby, in !

Ab. right and bel. left: two bronze iron-age neck rings (a.k.a. torques) from Uddel. I would do anything to wear these just once! 😍

Bel. right: parts of broken glass (!) bracelets from the iron age found in Beuningen.

De foto's in dit tentoonstellingsboek over sieraden uit Gelderland, geschreven door , zijn oogstrelend! 😍 Dit is echt precies wat ik nodig heb om de details van deze sieraden goed te bekijken en mooie reproducties te maken! 😁

All I ever ask of a book on jewellery is big and good pictures so I can feast my eyes at the pretty little details (and make better reproductions!) 😍😍This book on prehistoric to early modern jewellery found in the province of Gelderland by does that perfectly!

Lisbon trip 2: the national archaeological museum. I wasn't allowed to take pictures of their beautiful collection of shiny gold bronze to Roman era jewellery 😭😭😭 (torques, earrings, spiral bracelets and more!) but I did manage to take a few pictures of the epigraphic collection. It's a small but pretty (and cheap!) museum, and if you love jewellery and inscriptions like I do it's perfect!

Spotted! This funerary portrait from Roman Egypt depicts a woman wearing 'crotalia' earrings (pearls or gemstones hung from a bar in a row). This is my favourite type of Roman jewellery and the best-selling item in my collection too!
I just love it when the images match with the archaeology so well!

Great fun at the first workshop Roman jewellery diy today! 😃
We made Roman hoop-and pendant bead earrings in pearls, lapis lazuli and carnelian.
