[Jewellers tools]
There is something about having tools and laying them nicely in a draw. Here are just a couple of my tools that I use regularly and from time to time, a must for goldsmiths.
Top row (left → right)
1. Golden means caliper
(Used to check proportions based on the golden ratio)
2-3. Bench brushes (natural bristle, wooden handle, for sweeping filings and metal dust from the bench.)
4. Jeweller’s shears / snips (for cutting sheet metal and wire.)
5. Silica gel desiccant packs. Moisture control (tool storage). Super handy to have to avoid your tools from rusting.
6-7. Ring forming pliers (Bend strip or wire into circular / ring shapes)
Middle row (left → right)
8. Steel bench block / flat anvil plate
(For flattening, straightening, light hammering.)
9. Engineer’s square / try square
(For checking right angles)
10. Steel mitre sawing jig for tube and strip (used to saw metal strip, wire, or tube at precise, repeatable angles)
11. Jeweller’s adjustable mitre cutting jig (with depth stop and used to saw tube, rod, or strip to an exact length and/or angle)
12-13. screw-top pin vice (also called a hand pin chuck.Ised for manual drilling, alignment, or delicate control where a motor is too aggressive)
14-15. Spring dividers for marking out and transferring measurement
16. Centre punch for marking drill points
Bottom row (left → right)
17. Flexible shaft handpiece (Foredom-type, for rotary work: drilling, polishing, setting.)
18. Silica gel desiccant pack
