Meet Robbie: the only robot in our factory to make the assembly of the hot plate more efficient and ergonomically friendly 🤖

This step in the production used to take 4 people and is now largely automated. Two people operate Robbie, who prep the base plate with with the sides of the machine and the ring for the hot plate. Then, at breakneck speed, Robbie places the hot plate and two switches into the base plate. We hear you thinking, what happened to the other 2 people? They could be used in other steps of the production process.

Securing the hot plate used to take physical work and is now done by Robbie which is a huge ergonomical improvement.

Robbie can process hundreds of base plates per hour at top speed. This made production hugely efficient without compromising on quality.

As soon as the base plates leave the conveyor belt, they move to the assembly line. Here, they are carefully inspected before fitting all the component. This is the next stage, where the Moccamaster comes to life 🤎.

☕️ Cloves
☕️ Cinnamon sticks
☕️ Milk
☕️ Red food colouring
How to make it?
Add the cloves and cinnamon sticks to your filter basket and brew your coffee as you normally do. These ingredients will give your coffee a special touch. While waiting, froth the milk. Once the coffee is ready, pour it into a glass, add the warm, frothed milk, and top it off with red food colouring. Stir your coffee to give it the vampire’s touch. Enjoy! 🧛🏻☕️

Do you have a KBG Select? ☕ If so, your coffee is brewed in a glass jug placed on a smart hot plate. This keeps your coffee warm at the right temperature for 40 minutes and automatically adjusts to the amount of coffee in the jug. This prevents the coffee from burning when there’s only a little left. This means the ‘extra hot’ button on older Moccamaster models – which some of you may still remember – is no longer needed!

The hot plate starts out as a large roll of steel. At the factory, the steel is cut to size and stamped into the correct shape, with hundreds of hot plates produced every hour! The individual pins are then welded onto them, a process that literally sends sparks flying. ✨

After a thorough inspection, the hotplates temporarily leave the factory to receive their black coating. This is the only step in the process that we don’t carry out ourselves. As soon as they’re back in Amerongen, they move on to the assembly line, where they’re fitted into your Moccamaster.

And so, even the smallest component involves a whole production process! 🛠️
