Happy New Month everyone. Let's kick start it with lovely stories
This is the story of the sun and moon... do you know why we sometimes have eclipse of the sun and full moon?
The Radiant Sun Goddess – Keeper of Light
A long, long time ago, before people had clocks or lights or even fire, the world was dark. But every morning, the sun came out to shine. That was because there was someone special taking care of it.
Her name was Anaya, and she was the Sun Goddess.
She lived in a palace high above the clouds. The floors were shiny like gold, and the walls felt warm and made soft, humming sounds. Her voice was gentle like music in the wind. Her skin shone like the morning sun. When she laughed, the rivers felt warm, and wherever she walked, little flowers grew in the sky.
Each morning, before the first rooster on Earth could crow, Anaya would sing:
“Rise, golden one, bright and bold—
Warm the young and light the old.
Shine on rivers, shine on trees,
Shine on lands across all seas.”
Then the sun would roll out from her hands and climb into the sky.
People on Earth didn’t know Anaya’s name. They thought the sun just rose by itself.
“They don’t need to know me,” Anaya told the wind. “Let them have the light. That’s enough.”
But someone was watching.
Far, far below the ground, in a dark place where the sun had never reached, lived a shadow spirit named Morgal, the King of Darkness. His skin looked cracked like burnt wood, and his eyes were big and cold like frozen moons. They never blinked.
Morgal was once Anaya’s brother. He was meant to rule the night, just like she ruled the day. The two of them were supposed to share the sky—sun and moon, light and shadow. Every morning, Anaya would lift the sun. Every evening, Morgal would guide the moon across the sky, giving people rest and dreams.
But Morgal grew jealous.
He started to whisper to the moon, telling it not to set. He made the night last longer and longer. Farmers could no longer plant their crops. Children were scared. People began to fall sick.
Morgal told Anaya, “See how peaceful the night is? You don’t need the sun. Stay in the dark with me. Rest forever.”
He wanted both light and shadow to himself.
At first, Anaya begged him, “Brother, we are meant to share. You have your time, and I have mine.”
But Morgal laughed. “You shine, and they love you. I hide in the dark, and they fear me. I want to be the only one they see.”
He tried to block Anaya’s sunrise song. He tried to hold the moon in the sky all day. For a short time, the world was trapped in half-light—neither full day nor full night.
The Sky Elders saw this and became angry. They called Morgal to the Hall of Balance.
“You were given the gift of night,” they said. “But you tried to steal the day.”
Morgal shouted, “I only wanted to be seen!”
“You wanted to control,” the Elders said. “Now you will live where no light shines.”
They sent Morgal deep into the Earth, where he could no longer touch the moon. The sky healed. Day and night returned to balance. But deep below, Morgal stayed—burning with jealousy, waiting.
And he made a plan.
“She shines while I sit in shadows,” Morgal growled. “I will steal the sun. Then they will know what it means to live in fear.”
One night, while Anaya rested in her sky palace, Morgal flew in silently. His breath turned fire to ice. He wrapped the sun in chains made of fear, pride, and lies. Then he took it deep underground.
The next morning, the sun did not rise.
People woke up and rubbed their eyes. The sky was still black. Roosters didn’t crow. Birds didn’t sing. Trees looked weak, and the air smelled heavy and sad.
In a small village called Ajaka, people lit sticks and waved them in the dark, crying out, “Where is the sun? Has the world ended?”
Even the elders didn’t know what to do.
In the sky palace, Anaya opened her eyes and felt the emptiness. She touched the sky—cold. She sang, but her song didn’t work. The sun was gone.
“If I want to bring back the sun,” she said, “I must go to Earth myself.”
Anaya took off her glowing robe, tied her fiery hair in a scarf, and came down to Earth in human form
But Morgal, deep in his cold cave, watched from the shadows, his saddest grew and he took off his dark cracked skin and came down to the earth..
Then something happened....
