A friend advised using my first name as my children's surname to free them from ancestral curses. However, ancestral curses follow the family genealogy, not the name. The Bible says every family received its name from God. Instead of changing your surname, pray for your lineage and ask God to break every curse and give your name a new meaning in heaven. Walk by faith, not by sight, and believe God has changed the meaning of your name.

A good friend advised me to use my first name, Chukwuanuekperem, as my children's surname. He said it would free them from ancestral curses and generational challenges. He meant well, but here is the truth:

Ancestral curses do not care about the name you use. They follow the family genealogy—the bloodline, the lineage. You cannot run from a curse by simply changing your surname. It follows the blood, not the name.

Another friend said there is an evil meaning behind some ancestral names and suggested we change them. But the Bible says in Ephesians 3:14-15: "From whom every family in heaven and on earth is named." This means every family received its name from God. It was named in heaven before it manifested on earth.

Consider Jabez. His name meant "pain." He prayed, and God changed his situation—but he still answered the name Jabez. God gave it a new meaning in heaven. He walked by faith, not by sight. Faith is of the spirit.

Your surname is good to be used anywhere. If you desire a change, let it be done in the spiritual heavenly place. Let God change the meaning of your name in the spirit. Once He does, you can continue answering the same name on earth, but it now carries a new meaning—a heavenly meaning.

Do not run from your name. Run to God. Pray for your lineage. Ask Him to break every curse and give your name a new meaning in heaven.

That is the real solution—not changing a name on paper, but changing the spiritual reality behind it.

We walk by faith, not by sight. If you believe God has changed the meaning of your name, it is done. Answer it with boldness, knowing it now carries divine favour and purpose.
