You need to know what I am about to share especially if you are a business owner that sells goods that has expiry dates or can be damaged.

One of the methods I encourage business owners to use to manage the inventory is the FIFO (First In, First Out) approach.

Goods should be sold in the same chronological order as they were purchased or produced, this is especially important for consumable products like food, flowers etc..

A bar owner for example has to be aware of the drinks behind the bar and apply FIFO methods to improve bar inventory.

It's also a good idea for non-consumable goods since items sitting around for too long might become damaged or expire.

The best way to apply FIFO in a store or arrange on a shelf is to always add new items from the back so that the older products are at the front.

Once you apply this it will go a long way to cut down inventory loss through expiry or damage.

Dear business owner are you sure you are calculating your Cost of Goods (COGS) properly?

COGS represents the direct costs associated with producing or purchasing the goods or services sold by your business.

It's a crucial component of your business's profitability and is categorized separately from other expenses.

COGS includes costs such as:

- Raw materials and supplies
- Labor costs directly related to production
- Overhead costs directly related to production (e.g., equipment rent, utilities)
- Cost of purchasing finished goods for resale

Example 1:
A business owner that produces liquid soap for sale.
His/Her COGS will be the money spent on:
Materials, Ingredients, packaging, labour spent on creating the liquid soap.

Example 2:
A business owner that sells jewelries.
His/Her COGS will be money spent on:
1. The main cost of the jewelries.
2. The transport fare used to go and purchase the jewelries.
3. The case or nylon used for packaging the jewelries.

COGS is to be subtracted from Revenue (Sales) to calculate Gross Profit.

Then other Operational expenses are subtracted to give you your Net profit.

Operational expenses may include:
Advertising, Telephone, Rent, Salaries, Utilities, Transportation etc..

So with these are you sure you are calculating your COGS properly?
If not go back and take a review then apply this.
