Both of these bracelets were sold as jade.
At first glance, neither immediately stood out as problematic. One looked convincing until closer inspection revealed artificial colour concentration and a lighter-than-expected feel. It turned out to be dyed quartz. The second showed colour banding more typical of polycrystalline quartz than jade.
This is what makes jade difficult for many buyers.
Most people never get the opportunity to compare materials side by side, and without that comparison, many pieces can appear convincing for a very long time.
Appearance alone is rarely enough.
