This cuff is inspired from an antique iron wrought fence in an old Peranakan house. And just like the song, it was fascination from the get go!

I was totally drawn to the patterns then and it was instinctual to turn it into a bracelet. However the original patterns had alternating sharp spears sticking out but for safety reasons decided to tame and contain the spears within a frame. Lastly I decided to bling it up with some stones, and in this piece, have set it with tanzanites! The soft blue contrasted with the hard and sharp design.

Monstera Bangle.

A tourist walked in and requested a mid size monstera leaf to be made into a bangle...we have in stock a larger size and a smaller one but she wanted the mid size one which we do not have and she only had 2 days. We managed to make the size she wanted in time and she was ecstatic when the bangle was shown to her . We were glad that we delivered what she had envisioned!

I managed to photograph the bangle before it was given to client. Looking at the picture makes me realize why small jewelers like us do what we do. The scrambling is worth the smile of a satisfied customer!

Client brought in this diamond, white gold bangle, saying, see what you can do with it as she doesn't wear it at all.

My first impression is there's something interesting there but there's a lot I do not like too. Easiest to take diamond out and make another design out of it.

Then I realised I liked the loop through part but hated the scale. Then I thought why don't I turn it into a ring with the loop through as a main feature.

Well chop shop it is and here's the result!

When I first stepped into the jewelry department in art college, one of the first projects after the basics was to learn how to set cabochon stones. So off we would go to the stone sellers and I would be like a kid in a candy store and there was the beginnings of the love affair with gemstones...

Truth be told, over the years I was mesmerized by the blingier facetted stones and lost interest in cabochon stones. So recently a client wanted to make a necklace with her odd collection of cabochon stones. I had to dig through my old treasure trove way back 30yrs ago to find additional stones to complete the necklace.

Looking at the completed necklace, makes me appreciate the simple subtle beauty of cabochons again! Will definitely look for more cabs to purchase now!

Memoir of a Snail Ring

Recently I made a snail ring for a client but she sent it back saying it was too skinny so we put her on a rigorous diet of 24 hours vegetarian buffets with extra helpings of yummy avocado and chocolate desserts! She fattened up nicely and her owner was so pleased with her voluptuousness she took her along with her for a holiday!

The End.
