鄭家大屋建於1869年前，是澳門現存規模最大的院落式建築，亦是中國近代著名思想家鄭觀應的故居，大屋由鄭觀應的父親籌建，後由鄭觀應及其兄弟繼續修建。大屋為兩進深三開間式設計，以水巷分隔，主要以中國嶺南形制構建，屋裏屋外也體現出濃厚的中國傳統文化元素。此外，有別於一般中式民居建築，室內天花泥塑圖案、門楣窗楣的式樣，也體現外來文化的影響。
The Mandarin’s House, built before 1869, was the former family residence of Zheng Guanying, a famous intellectual of China’s modern era. This compound is the largest residential complex of buildings with courtyards in Macao. The construction was initiated by Zheng’s father and was later continued by Zheng and his brothers. The main residence was designed with a width of three bays and a depth of two halls, separated by private patios, mainly following an architectural style that is typical in the Lingnan region of China, with signature elements of traditional Chinese culture integrated in both the interior and exterior areas. Furthermore, and unlike more conventional Chinese private residences, the Mandarin’s House also reflects some influence of foreign cultures, with the integration of western decorative motifs adorning the indoor ceilings, as well as on the design of door lintels and the finishing materials of certain windows, among other details.
