【ロクロ成形について】
現在の陶磁器生産は機械化され石膏型や自動的な生産方法で、型さえあれば同じ物が、正確に多量に作られるようになり、ロクロ成形に及ばない程の生産量を上げていますが、ロクロ成形には、種々の形状をこなし、自分の意のままに形を表現出来る良さがあります。
分厚に成形しようと薄手の刃物のように成形しようと、形がくずれないように製作しなくてはいけません。
ロクロ成形は、土と親しみ、土との格闘によって、土を自分の物となす、陶土と技術と人間の感情をそのまま表わすものです。
そのためには永い年月の修練が必要です。
有田には輝かしい陶芸文化の伝統があり、その伝統の真の意味、創造性、技術の練磨を忘れず、日夜研鑽し、ロクロ成形を中心に伝承された成形の技法を学び、心技一体となって、ロクロに向かわなくてはなりません。
幾多の無名の陶工達の伝統技術を今日まで伝え、正しいロクロのあり方を誰かが受け継ぎ、後進に導いていかねばならない。
それが、私達の義務であり、責務でもあります。

【On Wheel-Throwing】
Today, ceramic production has become highly mechanized. Through the use of plaster molds and automated methods, identical objects can be produced with a precision and volume that far exceed the capacity of manual wheel-throwing. However, the true merit of wheel-throwing lies in its versatility—the ability to create a wide range of forms and to shape them in accordance with one’s own intention. Whether forming a thick, substantial vessel or an extremely thin, blade-like one, the artisan must ensure that the form remains stable and does not collapse.
Wheel-throwing is an intimate engagement with clay. Through this process, one comes to understand and internalize the material; it becomes a direct expression of the clay, the technique, and the human spirit. To achieve this requires many years of disciplined practice.
Arita is home to a distinguished ceramic tradition. Without forgetting the true meaning of this heritage—its creativity and the continual refinement of skill—we must devote ourselves to daily study. Centered on wheel-throwing, we must learn and inherit the forming techniques passed down through generations, and approach the wheel with mind, technique, and body as one (Shin-Gi-Tai).
It is our duty and responsibility to preserve the traditional skills cultivated by countless unnamed potters, to carry forward the true path of wheel-throwing, and to pass it on to future generations.
