DEGA

🇬🇧Some artifacts do not belong to the past.

They simply wait to be rediscovered.

The DEGA artifact was recovered from an ornate silver sugar bowl discovered during the excavation of a residential structure within the Scar Zone Italica, among the ruins of the ancient settlement once known as Venice.

Its original purpose remains unknown. The entirely hand-crafted metal weave suggests a ceremonial, symbolic or identity-related function.

Like every DECEM relic, DEGA does not belong to an era.

It belongs to time.

Il manufatto DEGA è stato recuperato all’interno di una preziosa zuccheriera in argento, rinvenuta durante gli scavi di un’unità abitativa nella Zona Cicatrice Italica, tra le rovine dell’antico insediamento conosciuto come Venezia.

La funzione originaria dell’oggetto rimane sconosciuta. L’intreccio metallico, interamente realizzato a mano, suggerisce un utilizzo cerimoniale, identitario o rituale.

Come ogni reliquia DECEM, DEGA non appartiene a un’epoca.

Appartiene al tempo.

La superficie sembra conservare il moto dell’acqua nel preciso istante della caduta.

🇮🇹 MEMENTO MORI
Le cronache più antiche parlano di un tempo in cui l’umanità abitava un unico mondo.

Oggi ne rimangono soltanto pochi grandi insediamenti, separati da distanze che nessuno attraversa più.
La memoria collettiva è stata volutamente cancellata.

Degli Antichi restano soltanto le reliquie.
Tra i reperti più enigmatici compare un ornamento ricorrente: un anello scolpito nella forma di un teschio umano.

Perché un’intera civiltà avrebbe scelto di indossare il simbolo della propria mortalità?
Era un rito? Un segno di appartenenza? Un monito?
Forse la risposta è andata perduta insieme alla loro storia.

L’Archeologia del Futuro è l’impianto narrativo attraverso cui conduco la mia ricerca artistica.

Ribalta il punto di osservazione dell’archeologia: invece di guardare al passato per comprendere il presente, immagina un futuro remoto in cui il nostro presente è ormai diventato un passato irraggiungibile.

Ogni opera nasce come una reliquia.
Non per raccontare il futuro.
Ma per interrogare il linguaggio, il mistero, il significato, la permanenza e il valore di ciò che scegliamo di lasciare dietro di noi.

The oldest chronicles speak of a time when humanity inhabited a single world.

Today, only a handful of distant settlements remain.
Collective memory has been deliberately erased.
All that survives of the Ancients are their relics.

Among the most enigmatic discoveries is a recurring ornament: a ring carved in the shape of a human skull.
Why would an entire civilization choose to wear the image of its own mortality?z

Was it a ritual? A mark of belonging? A warning?
Perhaps the answer disappeared along with their history.

Archaeology of the Future is the narrative framework through which I pursue my artistic research.

It reverses archaeology’s point of view: rather than looking at the past to understand the present, it imagines a distant future where our present has become an unreachable past.

Each work is conceived as a relic.
Not to tell the future.
But to question language, mystery, meaning, permanence, and the value of what we choose to leave behind.
