Heraclius ascended the throne during one of the Byzantine Empireโ€™s greatest crises. After Jerusalem fell to the Sassanian Persians in 614 AD and the Holy Cross was taken, he launched a remarkable counter-offensive that ultimately defeated the Persian forces. โš”๏ธ

The restoration of the Holy Cross to Jerusalem became one of the most symbolic events of his reign, giving the image of Victory and the cross on this coin an extraordinary historical meaning.
