Do you ever feel like everyone else knows how to do this properly?
Nitzavim–Vayelech opens with Moses gathering everyone — and then listing them. Heads of tribes, elders, officers, the children, the women, the stranger in the camp. And then, so nobody can miss it, all the way down: from the one who cuts your wood to the one who draws your water.
The list runs from the top of the society to the bottom and stops nowhere in between. Nobody is standing there as a guest.
And then: lo bashamayim hi. It is not in heaven. Not across the sea. Not filed away with people more qualified than you. It is already in your mouth and in your heart.
Which is why “choose life” is written as a command and not as a blessing. You can only be instructed to do something that is actually within reach.
The last Shabbat of the year. Selichot begin on Saturday night.

Shabbat Shalom.

Nobody has ever counted the seeds and agreed on a number.
Tradition says 613 — one for every Mitzvah. Count them yourself and you’ll get anything from two hundred to a thousand, depending on the fruit in your hand.
Which tells you the tradition was never doing arithmetic. It was saying something simpler: more than you can hold. More than any of us gets through in a year.
Rimonim means pomegranates. Two garnets, sterling silver, at the cuff — for the man who doesn’t wear much and means what he does wear.
The new year begins 11 September.

Everyone says never forget where you came from. Almost nobody does it when things are actually going well.
In this week’s parasha, Ki Tavo, it was a rule. Before you were allowed to keep your own harvest, you had to say one sentence out loud: my father had nothing.
Not in the hard year. In the good one.
That’s what keeps you on the ground.
The whole thing is in the journal this week.
Shabbat Shalom 🤍

The month were given to get ready. Not to become someone new- to come back to who we already are. We made a guide for these weeks- what Elul actually is, the idea I keep returning to, four gentle practices and a blessing. No pressure, nothing to buy. Comment „ELUL“ and we’ll send it to you. 🤍

HANDS FREE. SOUL COVERED.

Shemesh (שמש) means the sun. A slim nappa leather case for the sunglasses that currently live at the bottom of your bag — worn across the body on a hand-knotted cord and a chain of gold-plated brass links.

Black or camel. Chai for life, or hamsa for protection. It clips on rather than hanging fixed, so it can move to your keys or your bag whenever you want it to.

Which one is you — chai or hamsa? 👇

Seventy-four Mitzvot in this week’s Parasha and almost all of them are small. A lost animal on the road. A railing on the roof. A bundle of wheat left standing in the field. The kind of thing you would walk past on an ordinary Tuesday. In the middle of it sit four words: Lo tuchal l’hit’alem. You may not hide yourself. Not “you shouldn’t “ . You are not able to. Once you’ve seen something, you’re already part of it. We’re not asked to fix the whole world this week. Just not notice one thing and not walk past it. The whole letter on our journal. Want one every Shabbat? Comment SHABBAT and it lands in your inbox. Shabbat Shalom Mishpoche 🤍

We are rich in life.

Not in the way anyone can count.

Rich in Friday nights that turn strangers into family. In a table that always has one more chair. In a people who show up — for the simcha and for the heartbreak.

Move to a new city on Monday, have five Shabbat invites by Friday. A stranger at shul is just a cousin we haven’t met yet. No one eats alone on a chag — not on our watch.

And because we belong to each other: when one of us hurts, all of us hurt.

This is the wealth we wear.

Which one is most you? Tag your mishpoche. 👇
