One of my Favourite memories of 'Tyohar 'is of Rakshabandhan. Being a South Indian, we don't traditionally have Rakshabandhan ...but, being a Mumbai family , we've celebrated this day with maha enthu!!! Every year there'll be a full speed running to stores and buying Rakhi not just for my brother, but neighbours, school boys, building friends and did I miss someone? Lol.😜😜😜
I've always got a small motif rakhi for my brother and this one time he wanted a metal rakhi, I could not find one, so I bought a metal ring, flattened it and tied threads to the ends to fashion a ring rakhi for him.🥰🤌
And then comes the money money money!!!😁😁😁
I would begggg amma to gimme some money for "Tying" rakhi and being the protective sister 🤣.
Ofcourse over the years I learnt to appreciate this beautiful tradition more and have been sending Rakhis to my brother (in US) if not tying...it's a special occasion. And he always, always wears the Rakhi for long, even after the day is over.
