In the last few decades, traditional crafts have undergone tremendous change. The traditional crafts-person has to adapt to the ever-changing, new clientele. In addition, with the expanding markets, innovations have to be faster and less subtle. Though enterprising, artisans do not always have adequate information of the changing tastes of the market. For a myriad of reasons, including socio-econom
ic attitudes, they do not have access to the better markets. Commercialization in such situations has led to a downward spiral of declining creativity, quality and artistic finesse. OUR OBJECTIVES
Instilling self-confidence. Bringing them back to a familiar work environment. Providing dignity of work. Sustenance of perishing art forms. Interface between the artisans and prospective buyers to provide them recognition for their creativity. VISION
To revive and preserve the endangered traditional handicrafts. Enthusing the artisans who have abandoned the craft in favour of other sources of income outside their comfort-zone. Encouraging the younger generations to develop and pursue their family traditions and culture. Enabling the artisans to overcome obstacles such as:
Raw material that was originally used. Erosion of creative skills, the quality and finesse. Economic incapabilities to withstand competition from cheaper, mass-produced similar products. Lack of associated art-forms that accompanied the utilization of the products. No patronage/sponsorship and dwindling markets for the handicrafts.
