Draupadi has often been blamed for causing the Mahabharata war, but even one of the most repeated stories about her is untrue. When Duryodhana fell in the Maya Sabha, it was the attendants and four Pandavas who laughed—not Draupadi. Yet history continued to blame the woman who refused to remain silent.
We remember her anger but often overlook her fairness, intelligence, empathy and grief. Draupadi was complex, unapologetic and profoundly human—perhaps that is why Vyasa kept her at the heart of his epic.
