*SOLD*I rarely make jewelry anymore, but I can occasionally be convinced to do special orders. This was a pair of custom-designed bracelets some jerk commissioned from me without first understanding how I work. He rejected the final product and I got stuck with two pretty cool bracelets. I worked hard on them, and want them to go to a loving home. They are matching mens (on leather...I'd had the material for many years, since before my business went vegan) and womens (all silver) half-stars, which fit together to form a whole. The womens one is reversible, and the mens piece slides. They are looking for a respectful and appreciative owner(s). The pair is 100% handmade and unique, and I'm selling them for a tiny $150 each. Where has Oropa been the past few years? Well, the pandemic hit certain industries very hard, and my small, handmade-to-order jewelry design shop fell into the category of "nonessential businesses." What was always an almost impossible business to keep afloat became untenable, as sales dropped off almost entirely. Some of my most important studio equipment decided to break right before the pandemic, and I haven't had the money or heart to invest in new stuff (we're looking at thousands of shekels worth of tools and equipment). I've filled a few orders, but only the ones I could manage with what I still have. The collapse of Oropa led me back into teaching (a fall-back from a few careers ago). I still get occasional custom orders, like the one for this Evil Eye necklace-in-the-making, but the perpetual struggle of the starving artist has just gotten WORSE. If you are on the market for handmade and luxury goods (one and the same at this point), remember that you are supporting a trained, professional artisan, with bills like everyone else's. It's not often that, as an artist, you get such a deep, emotional reaction to your works. This set of messages about a recently received order made my work worth it. This is what I call a successful piece. This person came looking for something to help power her through some extremely tough times, and I think I helped her find what she needed ❤ Shared anonymously, with her permission:

"... I still feel very joyful and hopeful when I look at the beautiful uniqueness of the star but the star also has lots of other symbolism to me now that I'm seeing it and holding it in person. The point is like a mountain, like Mt. Sinai, with ability to climb above and hopefully, overcome anything with out-stretched arms to accept or welcome anything or anyone. Personifies me to a "T" or at least, in MY mind! ..It's more than a lucky charm to me. Although, there's an element of that too. It inspires joy, hope, faith, resilience (like the Jewish people), and the ability to overcome. Thinking about strength only. No room for doubt or fear (however, who am I kidding?!). ..I had a CT SCAN yesterday and the tech asked if I was wearing any jewelry. Neither are Jewish but they loved the story and the star..."
