Wrapping up May (and April!) ... Plus what’s to come in June and some other little bits…

The standout highlights have been celebrating little Billy’s 4th birthday; launching By Leahy Brides; meeting Mollie; creating pieces to celebrate multiple marriages, birthdays, love, and friendship; finally designing the much-awaited new rings (plus some); sampling a new idea with the beautiful Galway Wool, and taking part in the Irish PopUp Collective.

Days later and still in awe of this lady’s achievement in the London Marathon. The second fastest lady from Ireland, a sub 3hr marathon (02:50:34), and a PB! all the while raising a young family with four children. Blows my mind!

Caroline, you are just epic!

And yes, I spotted the Slip Necklace being put through its paces and keeping her company - I was chuffed.

To quote Caroline, ‘always chase your dreams, don’t ever think you’re not enough.’ ♥️☘️💪🏼🔥

A jewellery tip…
How to keep your beautiful chains from tangling - and how to fix them when that fails.

Recently I have received a couple of necklaces back for some upkeep and the odd one breaks my heart. It has been placed into the box in a spider-legged tangled mess. Not only does it take time to unravel it all, it has caused avoidable damage to the chain. 🫣🤯

A quick & simple tip to avoid the tangle in the first place - keep the original box. Every time you take off your precious personalised necklace, hang it back up exactly as you received it (into the little cut outs on the foam padded insert). Simple. 🧘🏻‍♀️

If you forget to do this and are met with a tangled mess then set aside five minutes and arm yourself with either two pins, two earring backs, or two iPhone SIM card pins - basically anything with a thin and pointy tip. And then start teasing. Tease the knot looser by starting at the outside and working inwards. Don’t loose faith, you will get there. And when you have unknotted it, please put it hanging safely back in the box. 💪🏼

Why does any of this matter?💡
Every time a chain gets knotted it gets weaker. The chain links get stretched and this will cause it to break eventually. Like any piece of solid precious metal jewellery, it will stand the test of time, so long as it’s cared for. ♥️

Not every piece that leaves my bench is shown but those that I can share are a treat. Especially when there’s such a rich story behind why it was chosen, who for, and the meaning behind the choice of personalised engravings. Sometimes it’s straightforward and simply personal. Other times a piece can hold many layers of meaning. One Signature Envelope Necklace was such a piece…

A gift for a god-daughter who was ‘like a sister’ to her. The Signature Envelope Necklace - while it was purchased to celebrate her birthday - held layers of meaning. It paid tribute to her mother gone before her, it celebrated a deeply significant achievement in her life, and also captured a memory of her father through the letter and envelope design.

There was a wedding celebration marked with a gift from Mum and Dad, and a piece to match gifted by her two sisters. A very sweet engraving on the reverse side captured the three sisters relationship as the bride moved into the next stage in her life.

It’s always a delight to engrave a cúpla focail as Gaeilge (a couple of words) and ‘Grá go deo’ (Love forever, or forever love) was a gorgeous choice.

And a matching pair of Slip Necklaces for a mum and daughter to celebrate their gorgeous relationship... to name but a few personalised pieces that exited the bench in March.

As always, thank you to everyone who chooses By Leahy.

As each month wraps up, I love to reflect back on all that has happened. Apart from capturing memories and creating connections through jewellery, so many of my memories are captured in photos. I chat more around the photos in the monthly email (subscribe in the footer of byleahy.com if you’d like to receive them).

Some highlights of the month include Matty turning one 🥹 and celebrating William’s birthday. I finally hung Billy’s duos of a masterpiece on the wall. He may have needed two baths after whipping out the paint but I think it was worth it 😅.

Another piece I finally got to hang up was the beautiful St.Brigid’s Cross from I’ve mentioned before. It’s sitting inside our front door alongside a piece of the local Abbey in Claregalway, that was gifted to us by my aunt and uncle. Little did they know it at the time but William’s great-grandparents are buried right under the window captured in the artwork. It’s a very special piece indeed.

Speaking of beautiful pieces, I was in awe on seeing some of the stunning creations in person. They are just exquisite.

As for what is ahead in April…
I’ll be honest in saying that I am finding the juggle of having two small children, a baby, and a business, a tad tricky right now. The priorities are being prioritised (the number one priority- hand making your beautiful orders - even those with a one day turnaround and hand delivered 😄) but other things are being pushed down the list unfortunately. I have created the next four engravings in the Zodiac Constellation collection but they are stuck in my camera roll until I find time to upload them to the website, I also overlooked one constellation, and another is already past it’s time period 🫣 If I could sum up life right now that epitomises it perfectly.
All I can say is thank you for your patience.
& ‘thank you’ so much to everyone who has chosen By Leahy, given feedback, and for recommending it to family and friends.

I am so grateful.

I’ve added some new bits to the monthly newsletter, which lives in the ‘A View From The Bench’ Blog on byleahy.com. These bits include some jewellery related tips, spotlighting Irish brands I am buying/enjoying, and some random reflections…
