I was in the depths of Connemara when I heard of the finalists announcement for the Irish Made Awards (thank you Aideen @ The Little Siopa for sending me a pic’.) The awards are a true celebration of exactly what it means to create and produce quality products in Ireland, and for that reason it means so much to be nominated alongside so many incredible Irish brands.

A story that started with my granny and grandad, and has had a few chapters added since… By Leahy started slowly in 2019 and has been building steadily since.

The nomination made me reflect back to the start. I am very grateful to be able to do what I do, to have wonderful and supportive customers, and to have my family and friends encourage and support me so much along the way. Growing a business alongside a family is all the things, and I feel very lucky in all of it. Every handmade piece that leaves my bench has captured a story from someone’s life. It’s a privilege to be trusted with capturing the most poignant moments and celebratory occasions.

Exploring a problem a few customers have had…

One customer in particular - Ray, tried to capture the fingerprint of their little baby and, in his words, ‘failed miserably’. He had tried multiple times over different days and times of the day but those gorgeous little chubby fidgety fingers were not playing ball. He gave up in the end.

Getting into my customers shoes… I tried to do the same with little Matty to see how I could help the process.

It was a hilarious experience…

Multiple sheets of paper and efforts later and with Matty trying to eat the paper and crawling all over the messy prints… I think I found a solution.

This ink pad was a game-changer.
Ink free so Matty stayed clean.
The ink supply was plentiful and lasted multiple efforts, and…

We got the fingerprint in the end! 😄

Great for babies but anyone who wants to capture a fingerprint - or paw print - easily and cleanly.

‘It’s a tad messy… Ely is still only learning to write.’

I find these signatures - the ones children produce in their first few years of writing - are just the sweetest, and they translate beautifully in the engraving. They are a delight to produce as they hold so much character and personality.

This was a birthday gift for Mum/Granny. Last year I had the pleasure of making a navy Connect Bracelet with her granddaughters signature for her birthday then.
‘We have been waiting for Ely to start writing so we could get the matching one. Lucky for us he had got there just in time.’ 🥰🥰

This was a gorgeous duo to make, and the first for the new ring design…

I met A&G at a recent event in Dublin. Both are from Spain and living in Dublin but G was moving back to Madrid a few days later, for good. They saw the new ring design, I talked them through the personalisation options and within a few minutes they’d chosen exactly what they wanted - a ring each to feel close together when apart.

They decided on a photo that they both loved. I sketched the outline and it translated beautifully into an engraving, and onto the new Portrait Slip Ring. They added 2025, a year of significance to them, to be placed just below their silhouettes.

The orders were placed on a Sunday and I was delighted to have them handmade and engraved within a day so that they received them together, before G left Ireland.

Thank you ladies. It was an absolute joy to meet you both and make these special pieces for you.

A new Connect Bracelet joined a pretty cool stack, to celebrate her husband’s birthday.

It was made all the more special by holding a special memory of a loved one in the engraving.

This particular one was made extra chunky and the result was perfect. Going forward each Connect Bracelet ordered for your husband, partner, brother, Dad, or Grandad will be made extra chunky (if desired). I’ve updated the product page to provide this option.

I met O at a recent event in Dublin. She had been living in Ireland for some time and was ‘so excited to have something engraved’. After some deliberation she decided on Grá in Ogham alphabet on the front side of each earring and her name in Ogham alphabet on the back of each earring.

There was something very special in engraving Ogham - the earliest known form of Gaelic.
