Trust the good people to release a handmade whorl snail in their 2026 wildlife collection.
You may have heard of this tiny snail of late (smaller than a finger nail) who is halting planning permission for a great big ballroom down in Doonbeg. (Trump LOVES a ballroom π) The whorl snail, protected under the EU Habitats Directive, favours wetlands and is an indicator of a healthy habitat. You might think why would a creature so small be so important, well, I found some great info in an article in
"They are the canary in the coal mine because if they are not there, that in itself can be a key indication that something is wrong. Given the snail is one of the first species to go in habitats like wetlands or fenlands, once they go, you lose the moss, when you lose the moss, you loose the wildflowers. Once you loose the wildflowers, you loose the bees". There's LOADS more to learn about this little snail who has evolved since the ice age, go look them up!
Our handmade whorl snails come with a tag of fun facts and are individually named. They are available instore only at the moment and are sooooo cute. I've been a fan of snails since seeing the racing snail in the NeverEnding Story. π π π π π π
