A transitional cut diamond is a round diamond cut during the period when diamond cutting was evolving from the Old European Cut to the modern round brilliant.

They were produced roughly from the 1930s to the 1950s and combine features of both older and modern cuts.

Features of this cut are - round shape, medium to slightly large table, small to medium often visible culet, 57/58 facets and a crown height higher that most modern brilliants.

Don’t you think this ring perfectly blends the architecture and beauty of antique jewellery? Let me tell you why anyways.

The baguette cut diamonds which sit on each side of the transitional cut diamond bring an architectural sense to this ring which is typical of the mid to late deco period. And somehow, all the shapes and cuts of the diamonds in this ring work just perfectly together. I think what really completes this ring is the small old European cut diamonds, which gives it almost a floral deco flare. All of this shows that this ring is truly timeless and unique from both a technical and visual point of view. Now you can see how the soft curves and intricate architectural filigree is typical of the transition period between late Edwardian and the Art Deco period.

At the centre, a single transitional cut diamond has an estimated carat weight of 1.20cts. A mix of baguette cut and smaller old European cut diamonds have an estimated combined weight of 0.50cts. The diamonds are I/J & G/H colour, VVS/VS clarity. Set in platinum.

Three stones, set vertically, I think ring is close to perfection.

But perfect in its own unique way! Just like every antique piece.

This Edwardian sapphire and diamond vertical three stone ring is centrally set with an octagonal emerald cut sapphire which shows no indication of being heated. Regardless, I think its colour is fantastic. Another part of this ring I love is the intricate settings which hold the Old mine cut diamonds. Now it’s not necessarily always hard to come by a beautiful setting in antique jewellery, but something about this one truly shows how this ring could never be recreated.

Set in platinum on 18kt yellow gold, this ring features two Old mine cut diamonds and an emerald cut sapphire.

I think this one may be a new favourite….. let me explain why!

Not that it requires much explanation, as the striking craftsmanship of this ring speaks for itself, we can at least discuss its historical relevance beyond its appearance. Now you usually hear (and see!) how Art Deco jewellery favours more geometric cuts. This ring however, both accepts and rejects the modernity of the Art Deco period, by blending geometric shapes with much older cushion cut stones which were more hard to find in Art Deco pieces. Although diamond cutting technology had advanced since the Georgian and Victorian eras when the cushion cut was being cut by hand, the two cushion cut stones in this piece really become the star of the show in this less typical Art Deco ring. Not to mention… I absolutely adore its setting.

The ring features two cushion cut diamonds set side by side in millegrain-edged bezels. The two centre stones have an estimated combined weight of 3.6cts, and sit within a geometric openwork plaque head with smaller diamond accents totalling an estimated 0.32cts.

If you’re all about the setting of your rings, this one is worth taking a look at!

The scalloped coronet setting of this 1960’s cocktail ring closely resemble curved arcs, which I actually think look quite floral, despite the coronet meaning ‘crown.’ The effect is decorative and effective, as it allows light to enter the stone from an array of different angles and perfectly lifts the stone. And not only is the setting extremely impressive, so is the stone! A pink tourmaline to be exact, and its unusual dichroic form allows you to see two different colours depending on the light.

This ring features an oval cut claw set in pink tourmaline which is estimated 2.80cts. The pink tourmaline is surrounded by a cluster of twelve round diamonds with a 0.60cctw, set in a scalloped 18kt gold coronet setting with a carved foliate design. Finger size L (sizable), and diamonds have been tested by our in-house gemologists as F/G colour, VS/SI clarity.
