One of the proudest moment of my life. When I was asked to take on the role of being the Irish Coach for the World Sport Arnis Championship it was a great honour,. Coming from Kilrea a small town in County Derry, to get a chance to coach the National Irish Team was way beyond anything my parents or I would have thought possible. I was told getting them to World Championship and to take part would be a success and it would take 2 to 3 years to win medals. Been Irish I took that to be a challenge and set 3 medals as a target for the World Championships.
The Irish team trained so hard all over the Summer, everything that was asked of them, they did and more. At the WORLD SPORT ARNIS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS they appeared at their firsr event with a Celtic Roar and won 35 Medals, 7 of my Studemts are now World Sport Arnis Champions of which 3 Double Gold Medalist in total we won 10 Gold , 15 Silver and 10 Bronze becoming one of the top teams. They were also the youngest team on average age, and will be a force in the years to come. For me aa a coach I cannot be prouder of my students.
This only became possible with the help of my great team of assistant coaches Ben Cunningham Paul Flynn, Dan McHugh, Aiveen Ford. Big thanks to Firhouse Community & Leisure Centre who were a great help in allowing us to train so much the past few months. We hope more new students will join our club in Firhouse and Adamstown Youth and Community Centre - AYCC take up Sport Arnis and reoresent their country in years to, especially now with 7 World Champions in our come
