Selenite is a crystalline variety of the mineral gypsum (calcium sulfate dihydrate), known for its softness (Mohs 2) and monoclinic crystal system. With a low density, pearly luster and often found in evaporite deposits, it forms large, blade-like crystals. Selenite forms in evaporite environments where salty or mineral-rich water evaporates, causing calcium sulfate to crystallize. Prehnite is a hydrated calcium aluminum silicate mineral. Named by German geologist Abraham Gottlob Werner in 1783, after the Dutch commander Hendrik Von Prehn, who discovered it at the Cape of Good Hope, South Africa.
It crystallizes in the orthorhombic system, often found as botryoidal (grape-like) or stalactite aggregates in igneous rocks. It forms as a secondary or hydrothermal mineral in cracks and cavities of basaltic, granite, syenite, or gneiss rocks. It is often associated with zeolites (such as datolite, apophyllite, stilbite). It often contains rutile inclusions (black fibers) and exhibits botryoidal (rounded aggregate) phenomena.

Indonesian blue opal, particularly from the Sukabumi and Banten regions, is scientifically classified as an amorphous mineraloid, or more specifically, Opal-A to Opal-CT. Unlike Australian opal, which is known for its intense play-of-color, Indonesian blue opal is often common opal, lacking play-of-color, but possessing a unique and intriguing internal structure. Its blue to blue-green color, often resembling blue sapphire, is due to microscopic changes. EDXRF analysis indicates the presence of copper (
), which contributes to the blue-green color. It forms at low temperatures in volcanic veins, often in the Jampang Formation (Lower-Middle Miocene) or the Genteng Formation (Early Pliocene).
