The same production year to Tokyo Olympic games.
The small symbol above the Seiko Sportsmatic text is the “S” whirl / stylized emblem used by Seiko in the 1960s.

The shape resembles a curved “S” or swirl, sometimes described by collectors as a “seagull-like” or “vortex” symbol.

It is a visual identity mark for Seiko’s automatic dress/sport watches of that period.

Minimalism on top - Mechanical madness underneath 🔥

The fumé dark-blue dial fades beautifully under the light, almost disappearing until the flying tourbillon starts dancing at 6 o’clock.
A clean, charming dial — pure focus on motion, depth, and mechanical art.

Powered by the hand-wound ST8000, this piece delivers something that once belonged only to haute horlogerie: a real tourbillon experience on the wrist.

The Calatrava-inspired case, heat-blued accents, sapphire crystal, and constantly rotating cage make this watch feel far more expensive than it has any right to be.

It may not be Swiss haute horlogerie,
but it offers some of the best value for money in modern mechanical watchmaking.

Sometimes watch collecting isn’t about prestige.
Sometimes it’s about staring at your wrist for way too long.

The Battle: Vintage Zenith vs Swatch x AP Royal Pop

The vintage Zenith represents traditional horology: a beautifully made manual-wind movement, elegant 1930s design, and real historical charm that collectors love. It’s for people who appreciate craftsmanship, heritage, and timeless style.

Meanwhile, the Swatch x Audemars Piguet “Royal Pop” takes a completely different approach. It turns the iconic Royal Oak design into a colorful, playful fashion plastic piece aimed at younger audiences and streetwear culture. Lightweight, bold, and hype-driven, it’s more about fun, self-expression, and making a statement.

Are you more into mechanical heritage and classic collecting, or modern fashion and pop-culture energy?

The Battle: Mechanical Heritage Versus Hype Culture
The pocket watch is no longer a relic of the past; it is a blank canvas for ultimate self-expression. Today, we are looking at a fascinating head-to-head battle that bridges nearly a century of design evolution. On one side sits a vintage Zenith Pocket Watch, a masterpiece of 1930s and mechanical longevity. On the other sits the new lauched plastic watch Swatch x Audemars Piguet "Royal Pop," a colorful, hype-driven crossover that completely reimagines traditional horology for the modern.

Zenith: The Purist’s Artifact
To hold the vintage Zenith is to hold a piece of pure watchmaking history. It is a masterclass in mid-century understatement:
Mechanical Integrity: Driven by a beautifully finished manual-wind caliber built to tick for generations.
Deco Sophistication: The clean sector dial, elegant typography, and a dedicated sub-seconds register embody timeless sophistication.
Authentic Patina: It offers an unrepeatable historical soul that connects the collector directly to the golden era of Swiss watchmaking.

Royal Pop: The Avant-Garde Disruptor
Turn the page to the Swatch x AP "Royal Pop," and the rules are completely rewritten. This piece turns the luxury world on its head:
Democratized Iconography: It shrinks the legendary octagonal bezel and tapisserie dial of the Royal Oak into a playful, lightweight composite shell.
Bold Streetwear Aesthetic: Dressed in striking pink and red tones, it trades a traditional silver chain for a casual, youthful strap system meant to be worn on the outside of a jacket.
Pop-Culture Magnet: It is an instant conversation starter that successfully bridges high-end luxury with accessible, internet-breaking hype.

The Verdict
This battle is less about timekeeping and more about identity. The Zenith belongs to the purist—the enthusiast who finds joy in the sweep of a mechanical hand and the whisper of heritage inside a tweed vest. Meanwhile, the Royal Pop belongs to the modern tastemaker—someone who loves fashion.
Which one are you?
