Madonna might have sung "Papa Don't Preach" back in 1986, but in 2026, she's got no problem doing some preaching of her own. The superstar singer is gearing up for the release of her new album, titled "Confessions on A Dance Floor."
The "Hung Up" singer recently gave fans a preview of her upcoming work with a surprise appearance in Times Square, New York. Unfortunately for Madonna, she wasn't expecting so many people to react by pulling out their phones to film the moment.
When speaking with journalist Anderson Cooper, Madonna aired her frustration with how fans consume entertainment and their need to record or document everything.
"I came to this earth to be a doer, not a watcher," she said, via The Independent, before continuing. "Put your f-----g phones down and connect."
A lot has changed since the 80s and 90s when Madonna was at the height of her fame. Technology is ubiquitous in our daily lives and has taken hold of how we embrace memorable moments. Dancing has given way to filming. Singing along has been swapped with taking photos of the crowd or groups of friends taking selfies.
We still have fun; we just need to make sure we can prove we were there; otherwise, did it really happen?
