Club Elections Day | 18th May

Last night was a major milestone for our club as we held the election for our next term's president, starting this June.

Before the election, two speakers delivered prepared speeches to kick-start the evening

Denzel shared a powerful realisation: a house does not necessarily equal a home. After being evicted twice - most recently forcing him and his family to live temporarily in a small service apartment - he discovered something unexpected. It was within those cramped walls, surrounded by loved ones and the memories they created together, that he truly understood the difference. A house, he reflected, is simply a roof overhead. But a home? A home is where peace resides, and where cherished memories are made.

Next Stephanie delivered a powerful message: hobbies are not just pastimes - they can also teach valuable life lessons. Using tennis as an example, she shared two key insights. First, after struggling to find the right fit through several different coaches and nearly giving up on the sport entirely, she decided to give one more coach a chance - and this time, things finally clicked. Second, her long search for a compatible coach helped her adjust her approach when working with a difficult manager at work. She closed with an enduring message for the audience: where there is a will, there is a way.

Lastly, congratulations to Lavanya Remesh, our newly elected 81st president! She’s ready to hit the ground running this June, focusing on growing our community and supporting everyone in the club family. Let’s make this next term amazing!

The Future is Now | May 4th, 2026

Last night's meeting was truly inspiring! We discovered the power of presence and walked away with deeply provoked thoughts. Embracing our evening theme, our speakers shared powerful lessons on taking control of life today.

Adriel shared his struggles with adult socialization. Through trial and error, he learned that finding the right community requires exposing yourself to new groups and staying proactive.

Then, Arthur explained how biology wires us to crave recognition, often sacrificing health for status. Citing Why Buddhism is True, he urged us to view these desires as evolutionary leftovers instead of letting them control us.

Lastly, after nine years away, Jasmine returned to Toastmasters! She shared her vibrant journey from Mumbai to software engineering to parenting in Hong Kong, proving that life is about embracing every imperfect step.

Each of these powerful stories reminded us to focus on the power of the present moment. Thank you to all our incredible speakers for inspiring us and challenging our perspectives throughout the night!

The Power of Giving | April 20th, 2026

Last night's meeting reminded us that giving comes in many forms – giving attention to our emotions, giving voice to our loved ones, giving ourselves grace, and giving others the space to grow.

Stephanie Fung shared her journey of tracking emotions, showing how monitoring her internal state helped her identify stress triggers and recurring patterns. Her message was simple yet powerful: start noticing how you feel, and you'll begin managing your well-being with greater clarity and control.

In a deeply moving speech titled "Do Not Underestimate Yourself," Kajal Aswani honoured her sister, born with a rare disability. Despite years of surgeries, bullying, and repeated rejections, her sister never allowed the world to define her ceiling. Today, she is a teacher, counsellor, disability spokesperson, co-author of two best-selling books, and a mother of two. Her sister's secret? When one door closes, another opens – and you keep going. Kajal left the audience with a powerful question: What has the world underestimated in you, and what are you doing to prove them wrong?

Mandy Yang told a relatable story about the quiet pull of blind boxes – chasing not the toy, but the fleeting feeling it promised. She realised it was easier to open a mystery box than to open herself up to real connection. Her speech was a beautiful shift from chasing impulse to choosing presence.

Finally, Ryan Li shared unexpected leadership lessons from teaching young children. From letting kids cook at a BBQ to helping a shy boy discover confidence through art, he learnt that true leadership means adapting, empowering, and noticing the quiet ones.

Thank you to all our speakers for giving so generously of their stories and hearts.

April Fool's Day | March 30th, 2026

Last night's joint club meeting (HKTMC & Thank God It’s Toastmasters Advanced Club) was full of surprises, laughter, and unexpected wisdom – the perfect way to celebrate April Fool's Day!

A special highlight was an engaging humor workshop led by Roberto Fong. Using UNO cards as a creative prop, he guided the audience through a hands-on roleplay and left us with a memorable formula for crafting humor: "build it, pause it, break it, test it." It was a playful yet practical reminder that great humour takes practice.

Abishek Kumar shared a relatable story of receiving a last-minute presentation assignment from his manager – and initially thinking it was an April Fool's prank. With only two weeks to prepare, he relied on three P's: “Pause, Prepare, Perspective”. The result? A presentation that turned out even better than expected.

Anthony So offered a fascinating twist on how we interpret data, drawing from WWII aircraft damage statistics. They warned against survivorship bias – the mistake of studying only what survived rather than what failed. The message was clear: when facing challenges, look beyond the obvious and examine what's missing.

In a heartfelt closing, Eddie Lee shared a moving story of personal transformation using fencing champion Edgar Cheung as an example. After a significant relationship came to an end, he struggled to move forward, recognising that he was not ready for a new chapter. But when the mindset finally shifted – from holding on to being open – he found himself able to welcome someone new into his life, leading to an even happier and more fulfilling relationship than before.

Thank you to our speakers, workshop facilitator and everyone who came ready to grow. A special thanks to Hameed Jalal (our President from Jul-Dec 1975) to be one of our evaluators. Confidence isn’t built in a day—it blossoms with every step!

Heartfelt Speeches | March 16th, 2026

Last night's meeting was all about growth, connection, and the quiet power of showing up—again and again.

A special highlight of the evening was an insightful Evaluation Workshop led by Ben Fung, who shared valuable tools for delivering feedback that uplifts and empowers.

Lucy Morris opened with a powerful reminder: "A healthy person has 1000 wishes; a sick man has only one." Drawing from epigenetics, she shared five key influences on our health and emphasized that one small, consistent change can create lasting impact over time.

Vishnu Reddy took us on a journey from panic to warmth, recounting a nerve-wracking encounter with a tourist couple that unexpectedly turned into genuine connection. His message was beautifully simple: a heartfelt greeting can transform strangers into friends.

In a thought-provoking speech, Denzel Howarth redefined what it means to come in second. In a world obsessed with winning, he reminded us that second place isn't failure—it's an invitation to adopt a learner's heart. When you're second, you know there's more to learn, and that drive never fades.

Thank you to our speakers, our workshop facilitator, and everyone who came ready to grow. Confidence isn't built in a day—it blossoms with every step.

🏆Best Speaker: Denzel Howarth
🏆Best Facilitator: Lavanya Ramesh (Language Evaluator)
