“We have many developed economies that are heavily leveraged with debt levels that are approaching potentially unsustainable levels. And when it comes to deleveraging, there's only so many ways that you can do that.
So you can default on your debt. And who wants to do that, right? You can cut spending and increase revenues with such often politically difficult.
Then you can grow your way out of the problem. Now, that would be a great solution, but definitely easier said than done. And then lastly, you can depreciate the real value of debt through inflation.
And when it comes down to it, I think for most economies, the path of least resistance will be the latter, using inflation as a tool to erode the real value of debt over time.”
