Tyre-known as Tyrus in Latin-was one of the most important cities of the ancient Mediterranean world. Located on the coast of modern-day Lebanon, it played a central role in trade, culture, and maritime power for over a thousand years.

Tyre was founded around the 3rd millennium BCE by the Phoenicians. It began as a mainland settlement but later expanded onto a nearby island, which made it extremely difficult to conquer.

A historical place targeted many times by conquerers and still facing the tragedy of war.
