Our Founder & CEO was invited to join in New York to discuss the future of diamonds, and how lab-grown diamonds are revolutionising the industry and redefining modern luxury.
It is now scientifically proven that a diamond is a diamond, whether from a lab or a mine. There is zero difference chemically, optically, or structurally, and no gemologist can distinguish them without specialised equipment.
The conversation today is no longer about authenticity. It is about value, sustainability, and innovation.
A 2-carat lab-grown diamond in a top colour grade, D or E, among the rarest in the world, like the stones we craft at , costs around $6,000. The mined equivalent, with the same certification, would cost closer to $60,000.
Many mined diamonds lose a significant portion of their value the moment they leave the boutique, often 50% or more. Clients are questioning why they should spend ten times more for the same product with the same certificate. Lab-grown diamonds are bringing transparency and fairness back to the industry, without decades of inflated pricing driven by perceived scarcity.
Diamonds, whether mined or lab-grown, should not be viewed as investments, but as extraordinary pieces to wear, love, and enjoy for a lifetime.
At Astrea London, lab-grown diamonds are not simply a more affordable alternative, they are a smarter, more creative choice. Created without mining, environmental destruction, or the ethical concerns that have long shadowed the industry, they open a new world of colour, shape, and design, allowing us to dream bigger, design bolder, and craft jewellery as imaginative as it is extraordinary.
And the market is moving with it. Lab-grown have grown from 1% in 2015 to nearly 40% last year. In the US, around 70% of engagement rings are now lab-grown, with economists predicting that figure could rise to 75% by 2030, though many believe sooner.
The world is changing through technology and education. The diamond industry is changing. And at Astrea London, we have always believed that extraordinary beauty should never come at the cost of the planet.
This is the diamond revolution. π€
