My name is Fiona Webb and I am a cake decorating enthusiast from Twickenham. I first took an interest in cakes when I was at home with my mother who baked a lot as there were six of us, and when I got married in 1980 I baked my first batch of fruit cakes but did not dare to ice them. It did, however, inspire me and I joined a cake decorating class in Hammersmith and after a year of basics I manage
d to successfully decorate my brothers wedding cake (I was very proud of it at the time but now look back and realise how far I have come!!) From there I continued going on courses and weekend breaks to Bournemouth to ice with Eddie Spence at the Mary Ford bakery and learnt so much on royal icing techniques. I then moved and joined a sugar flower course at our local secondary school and continued there for 5 years! We ended up making dandelions from sugar as we ran out of flowers to make. Here I met many cake enthusiasts who I am still in contact with. I have baked, decorated and put together many cakes now for family and friends and still enjoy doing it 30 years later. I have made a diverse range of cakes, and I am open to requests and suggestions. Please take a look at my collection of previous creations in the gallery.
I have entered competitions within the ‘British Sugarcraft Guild‘ region competitions and won Bronze, Silver and three Golds for my work of which I am immensely proud. I then decided that I needed more and found a course for City & Guilds and studied again at a local school for a year and gained my City & Guilds 2 award which inspired me to start teaching the subject I so love. Having found a venue for classes I then found some brilliant students, adults and children, who wanted to learn cake decorating, sugar flowers etc. My students have been wonderful and I have enjoyed every moment of teaching them. The look on their faces when a project is finished is inspirational. I have been a member for many years of Windsor British Sugarcraft Guild based in Datchet, held at the Women’s Institute Hall, Datchet, Berkshire SL3 9EH (website windsorbsg.co.uk) Meetings are held every third saturday of the month from 2pm-4pm (excluding August) (December meeting is usually a xmas party event with a quiz and usually the second saturday of the month). You are welcome to attend any session as a visitor for £6 or become a member of your local BSG – further information can be found on their website www.region8bsg.co.uk and you will also find Windsor Diary events.
